i think his guilt makes a lot of sense if you see the weeknd as a character who's been evolving since his debut, where over the years he's kinda documented in detail the 'bad' shit he's done (drugs, gratuitous sex, cheating, toxicity in relationships). after hours can be seen as a sequel to his previous projects. the thing with abel is that everything is deeper than it seems and he puts a lot of thought into every little thing... even the poppiest hits have layers that are more obvious in the context of the album and in his whole discography. it's cool!

I love how Abel is capable of giving us a happy, dancing and vibing sound, and made us cry and reflect about his lyrics 😭

Abel reflect so much about LA, Vegas and Hollywood life since his EP My Dear Melancholy (previous of After Hours) and he continues to made a theme through After Hours, also reflecting about his abuse on drugs, and how this lifestyle and this relationship is almost "doomed" due his lifestyle and addiction, is way too late to save their souls bc they're already poision by the luxury. He developed it better through the album

The production is just so crazy throughout this album 🔥 LA and Vegas, and his relationship, and the industry. Most everything he does has layers and ambiguity. He is the Da Vinci code of artists lol He’s been toxic. This is really the first full album he’s really showed this side of himself so vulnerably. Actually owning up to the stuff he done in the past. The whole album has a storyline and you go through it all with him 🖤

He can’t really go over it again too much or else people would call his musics subject matter repetitive. He spent multiple mixtapes and albums going into exactly what he’s done. This is purely a remorse album

Might have been better to start at his first mixtape and go through his discography. It’s his life and you hear him move through it.

It’s too late to save their relationship so he use drugs to forget that he felt something in the first place and at the same time the environment he is in is so toxic that it reflects so well the way he is in a relationship
