Thank you so much! I find your comments heartening and helpful, and I genuinely appreciate them. To me, a community is a place where we can inspire each other and learn from each other. Most people, I find, understand and appreciate that, but there are a few lost souls out there intent on proving how smart they are or, much worse, actively seeking to hurt and tear down others. I make a conscious decision to focus on those who engage in good faith, and I find it's very much worth it. I've engaged with many fandoms, and the One Piece fandom is primarily different for its size and perhaps just how international it is, and the latter is something I love. Other than that, it's like most other fandoms -- full of generally good people who love sharing their passion. I'm grateful to be among them. All the best!

Looking forward to your Earthsea video. I think you and I are similarly impacted by that series. I just finished reading a recent scholarly book on Earthsea (I was asked to review it for a journal), and also just got my copy of the latest Library of America volume of her works, which contains her five non-series novels (Lathe of Heaven, Lavinia, et al). It’s a shame Le Guin scholarship probably isn’t the best content for a channel like yours. It’d be fun to get AP and me on to discuss Attebery’s scholarship of her works. (I really should look at getting a channel up and running so we can have a big discussion of her work. Once I’m better settled at the new job….)

I think it is safe to report that I have finished my own first book; as it is based upon people and characters created for a troupe I directed for a Renaissance fair for almost 20 years, it may be for a small audience of those people, but once I let them have a read through and get critiques from them, it should be easy enough to change up the names (such as ‘Sterling Highwayman’ and ‘Bark Timber’) to less whimsical ones, as they tale gets quite serious, and to slightly expand a few plot points, as well, for hopefully a wider audience. 10+ years, and it is finally ‘done’!🎉

Allen really did do a good job. Listening to the audible sample now. I bust out laughing when Allen belted out his first character voice. Not a bad making fun of it laugh, it was just so good and came out of nowhere. Honestly, I was worried at first because the audio production values Allen uses in his content studio I felt wouldn't have favored an audiobook narration. He got the values right and his voice is a lot clearer and more accessible in this book. The sample was too short. As with a lot of genres, I probably wouldn't have the patience to read your book because I don't like a lot of fantasy, but Allen's narration...I'd seriously consider.

I really want to read the Bound and the Broken books. I'm working on reading Pillars of the Earth right now, and hopefully the sequels. Those are some pretty thick books, so I probably shouldn't add another series of thick books to the mix! I'm also working on the 3rd book in the Suneater series. Dandelion Dynasty is also high on my list, but will have to wait until next year.

I'd love to see you read the Cradle series. It is a really wild ride that is almost like a manga in novel form. It feels super unique. It follows a outcast young man who was born without a 'path' in his community and shunned for it, and how that experience impacts the entire course of his life and changes the world. It is a really lovely tale with incredibly lovable and consistently written characters.

Oda has been paraphrased that he created one piece to be a story for everyone. Everyone doesn’t have to love one piece but everyone has the possibility to really connect with it on some level if you so choose. It’s worth at least a try to see if you connect and I think most people should at least try. It’s long but once you really get started, you never quite want it to stop.

​@@PhilipChaseTheBestofFantasy I keep wondering why crocodile has such sad eyes and makes the choices he does, its still unexplained to this day currently, crocodile wanted to kill luffy, then changes as if he learned something, nobody knows why as of yet but I'm sure the proof is hidden here somewhere- can't you use your powers to figure out crocodile? so far only Oda knows the answers
