Many of these former Soviet weapons came a few Warsaw Pact countries and also Iraq after Desert Storm. Many are not the exact Soviet or Russian versions. The USSR and later Russia, licensed manufacturing of their weapon systems to other friendly or allies. However, it gives US fighter pilots and helicopter crew the ability to place hands on what our adversaries utilize.

@@user-wz3yq2iv7rLet me correct you…they were rightfully taken after “your country’s” dictator couldn’t keep his hand in his own pockets, and invaded a neighboring US ally to financially make up for his horribly conducted war against Iran by stealing Kuwait’s gold and riches. Half the Soviet jets that were taken from Iraq were abandoned out of the pilots fear of certain death by destruction or evacuated from Iraqi airfields and flown to neighboring countries where they were handed over to the US anyway. Don’t get angry with foul language, get educated on accurate historical accounts. Besides, Russian equipment has shown to be by far inferior to US and western made equivalent.

Much of the equipment sold by the USSR was called “monkey models” or stripped-down versions of the original. Some of the avionics were not as advanced, and in the case of armored vehicles, they used inferior armor. Army tank experts weighed captured Soviet-made Iraqi tanks and discovered they weighed significantly less than what we knew the originals weighed, which they attributed to lighter, weaker armor.

I was training in Fort Polk, LA for my AT. At the end of our month training we load pack up and get ready to head back to our own units. Mine was in Texas. So while loading up our humvee’s and other vehicles on truckers flatbeds that were contracted with the Army to take our stuff back for us while we were driven back in nice buses I ran into a trucker named Daniel. Nice gentleman and we had started discussing random topics while waiting for more vehicles to arrive at the prep yard. We get to talking about how he’s been to area 51 to drop off certain containers he didnt know what was inside to an extent. Well one of the pictures he showed me was him standing in front of his truck bed and behind him was a russian jet. Im assuming to be taken more apart and inspected. Pretty cool in my opinion

Love the NMUSAF, I live just about 50 minutes south of the museum, and they definitely have a good collection of Russian aircraft, they have every MiG from the 15 up the the 29 except they are missing the MiG-27, and their MiG-25 is in storage missing wings. And now with the addition of the Su-27 they have 2 SU aircraft. They also have a SU-22M4 in storage that needs to be restored.

It was in the late 50's where they tried to reverse engineer the jet engines, they got plans from rolls royce but their best metals and alloys metallurgical properties were to brittle and lacked strength. They wanted to find out what metals were being used so they called rolls royce and booked them selves on a tour, they has special shoes made with soft rubber and foam inserts on their soles and walked around the machine shops picking up metal shards and then made the internals from those new alloys.

Yes in 1947 as a gesture of good will Rolls Royce sold 25 Nene engines to Russia with a caveat that the engines were used in non military applications. The Russians then copied them and put them in the Mig 15

They keep them abandoned so they can see their capabilities and form tactical analysis on how to beat them in long medium and short distance engagements. The F15 is the front line interceptor in many NATO countries with the fastest climb to altitude, data link and radar and sensor suites beyond the capabilities of other Russian aircraft.

I'm pretty certain they had access to a few Iranian examples ,complete with pilots flying them .As for actually having any , I would say that only 1 was given ,with parts. I doubt it flies much anymore ,as they have likely run out of parts long ago. Too bad the Canadian purchase fell through. Would have been interesting.

I didn't imply those are two different words, it's just my habit of second, it can be either of those. Where -enic means talking about "having such quality", while -enia means "being of that quality". And I didn't really criticise someone's English. Actually, many Russians and Ukrainians pronounce it “Sue,” as it is an abbreviation of Sukhoi. The Ka-52 is not “Kay-ay,” but “Kah” as it’s short for Kamov; Tupolev aircraft are “Two” rather than “Tee-you.” (For the record, I used to say “Ess-you,” “Kay-ay,” and “Tee-you” myself.)

The U.S military seems to have its hand tied these days , way to passive to foes like Russia and China , an more to my point , Why are U.S reconocence or Western aircraft recon not escorted with fighter jets ... Most I have seen in the recon over the black sea have had no escorts , an then have unwanted contact with Russian SUs or China pulling up in there rip off of some Ben shaling version of a western aircraft.... boggles the mind. NATO counties are looking weaker by the year , an America , well we all see that lady liberty's light is not so bright these days.... NATO , needs to get it's act together , an America well...

I can't speak for NATO but I can speak for the US military. Firstly to answer you question on escorts, they are escorted sometimes but you may or may not see them, when they are escorted it's a show of force. Rule of thumb to follow is if you can see us we can see you. For example Iran flew a drone over our carrier group we saw that thing before it even left the ground infact we had a HELICOPTER follow it and take pictures. The times the are no escorts for recon aircraft is because escorts are a show of force, we don't need to do that 24/7 it require more aircraft and logistic recon planes fly large distances fighter jets may have to refuel which means having ariel refueling craft, it can be done and has been done but their no need espcially when you have the the largest and second largest airforce in the world. Touch one and you are screwed as USN vessels lock on to your aircraft and engage. And we can do it look in the red sea region USN shot down curise missiles and drones

However take a look back , when over the Black sea a U.S. Recon aircraft was in International airspace and up Comes a SU27 , comes within 16 feet of this recon EP-3 aircraft at one point , then Jet washed it on the way out.. NO escort and there has been way more recent incidents in the same area of IAS . However if there was a NATO or USN aircraft in that area of contact , escorting , this potential for not only mid air disaster , but also a international escalation of already tense situations in the region would definitely be avoided , Period. Here , Is it better to Do an oil change or to what for the idiot light to go on , on the dash. Just saying...

@@sammym.belfastchild Yes their been increase aggression by Russian fighters, but sending escorts for every reconnaissance mission would be a waste. Sometimes their escorts sometimes their not. Russian and Chinese jets have flown close but most of the time it's just that. I think it simply they don't want to risk an American jet shooting down an Russian jet in the past the US has shot down jets that they attempted to intercept for example 1989 American F-14 vs Libyan Floggers. Additionally the by flying escorts you allow your enemies to collect intel on your aircraft why let that happen not to mention the other reasons I mentioned before. Overall I don't think escorts are always worth the effort it simply depends on the mission.
