Fun Fact about the “To Michael” commercial: Michael was actually a real person they were tributing named “Michael John Mamaril”. He was a PS3 fan who tragically passed away via cancer and so Sony with the support of Michael’s friend chose him as the person the characters would pay tribute towards, in fact a lot of the games represented in that commercial was actually some of Michael’s favorite games and favorite gaming characters, which just makes this commercial all the more bittersweet In fact not just that, in Borderlands 2, there was actually also a monologue by Claptrap paying respects to Michael as a sort of tie in to that commercial, you can actually look it up for yourself! And on top of that they also added him in as an NPC! And also side note fun fact: the director of the commercial went on to direct the 2021 Mortal Kombat Movie that was actually not bad! (At least in my opinion hehe)
@safebox362 жыл бұрын
I had heard that same story, but I don't know if there is any connection between the former Borderlands player turned NPC and the commercial Michael. At least, I can't find any information confirming it's the same person.
@PuffyBuffy2 жыл бұрын
@@safebox36 I remember an article talking about it years ago but likely it was buried deep within the internet sea or just got taken down for unknown reasons And also either way Michael’s frame in the commercial showing what he looks like and the NPC in borderlands 2 are the exact same, down to even the same nose shape (just the only real difference is that in borderlands 2 he has cool shades) but anyway it’s just a little piece of trivia with the commercial that’s just made me love it even more, even if it is very… sad.
@PepsiCat321 Жыл бұрын
I can’t find any evidence of this connection. Also there was a contest going on for that commercial. They wanted a picture and your name. And my friend claimed to have won the contest. And I seen pictures of him and it looks just like the picture from the commercial. Maybe he lied and happens to look identical. But I do know for a fact that this was a contest you could enter and win
@PuffyBuffy Жыл бұрын
@@PepsiCat321 I already said earlier that I found that trivia in a website that nowadays has been most likely either deleted for unknown reasons or buried within the internet sea, but given how you said it was a contest, it does make a bit more sense in retrospect! as in likely they chose Michael as the winner for the commercial not because of luck or chance but rather because of that reason that made Sony skew the winner chance towards Michael Similar to how the goldenbolt won the PlayStation all star sweepstakes because he wrote a nice letter to the devs and so they made him the winner because of it! Either way I just wanted to get this out just for fun (again even though it’s… sad) and to show a layer to the commercial that’s the main reason why I love it to begin with! Sorry if I’m going on for too long with this hehe

A fun fact: Back in 2020 I had a few videos that initially used this sort of title structure, a little bit after Caddy! I found out afterwards he was using that style too, but more frequently. Titles are all fluid as time goes on, so I wanna say most of them changed - we've all gotta play the game after all. Thankfully Caddy's a buddy now too, so I don't have to worry about weird copycat drama (that almost happened once too when another creator and I happened to independently drop similar videos with close to the same thumbnail within a day of one another!).

Something obscure makes more sense for 'it isn't safe Uncharted is a mainstream appealing IP then say Puppeteer LocoRoco for a McDonald's and but I mean the Ape Escape/Parappa 2 ones are pretty cool with the Apes eating the burgers, but something like those being safe' but whatever. Portable nuts context or not of being particular makes no sense for literal acorns snap off trees. So even if aiming for the context it actually does figuratively I'd you think in the sense of a console that's a handheld it makes no sense. No one goes 'oh yeah apples stuck to trees, I can now play my apple wherever I go now it's off the branch'..... At least something more relevant to me it just seems like 'product at end, weird ad that isn't memorable just weird and shock value'. I Mena most songs have forgettable lyrics so the words and jingles and such are to me at least too but music samples it varies and artstyle also. Some companies need to think outside the box not 'point to this type of person, have an animal and art in a certain way with dialogue so particularly off topic but here is our product you like product' like is this Hot coffee mod marketing to just say random stuff and be controversial level of dumb marketing I mean some of us customers are smarter than the advertising companies being just crazy in a room going 'we need to think big' and we're just going so they create dumb ad ideas all day, don't know the audience, are supposed to attract an average audience whether stereotypes or whatever corners to get people interested why not just show the games in particular ways that aren't dumb and say only on PlayStation that would make sense or sell it for the media playback if the PSP before smartphones or the camera attachment for EyePet or something. I think many US ads are just ridiculous even with my own AU ads making no sense for just regular things as it is. The Kevin Butler ads are more surprising then I thought when I went to check them myself months ago as I'd never seen them. Vita ads in Japan are quite interesting (never seen any western Vita ads because I can't find them and probably glad I haven't as they seem pretty terrible. The PSP portable nut, the and the Ratchet PSP ad of clusterbonbs, Pocket Station egg. PS1 is a grey area I've never seen or understood the SAPs ads ever, the WipEout ads are weird, PS2 with PS9 or the women that talks with the weird eyes and the other David Lynch ads are strange. PS3 with the baby doll/colour and so on was pretty bad but the Michael, Perfect Day and early it does everything ones were pretty good. I think when real businesses are in a game it's just annoying. I am not surprised that political mentions were in Burnout paradise in the US I mean, sigh. If the dates lined up sure but still. Food ones I can take I guess, some of it's a racing game sure they are made up of licenses anyways. But I mean I don't think Subway is the right time for Nate to get during a chase but ok sure. XD

Is it true that the Kevin Butler actor was fired for appearing in a Nintendo commercial?
@dying_souls2 жыл бұрын
i think I heard that before but I have no idea if it’s true or not
@TheGoldenBolt2 жыл бұрын
It wasn't that the actor was fired; Sony moved to a different ad agency at some point around 2012-2013, and Butler's actor Jerry Lambert happened to appear in an ad run for Bridgestone tires. (It was either a whole run or it was just one, I honestly don't recall.) One of them advertised giving away a free Wii, which broke Lambert's non-compete indicating that he couldn't appear in commercials for competing game systems. There was some gray area, since this wasn't _for_ Nintendo, but they just went ahead and did a new cut that didn't have Lambert, and all was fine after that as far as I know.
