I found all the weirdest disc golf discs. Disc golf has a governing body, the PDGA. And in order to play in tournaments you must use PDGA approved discs. I found some of the strangest discs out there to be approved. Enjoy.

I met the creator of the turbo putt, Steve Pearson, at his factory near Orlando. He gave me a box of second quality discs to try. I have a turbo putt from him, plus a Raging Inferno, with the dimple technology. My buddy swears that the T bone will get him out of anything. Sadly, we lost Steve to an aneurism. He also made one of my favorite discs, the Scream. It is kind of floppy so it will flip over and roll if you throw in wrong, but no other disc flies as far when I get it right.

I throw the Sinus inside of 200’ on backhand. It’s very over stable. I bag one for putting, one for throwing and have 4 more in the backup box. Never play without it. I threw an epic back in the day Throw it straight up on a thumber and it would flatten out and glide forever. One disc you might like is the Prometheus by Salient. I got a rainbow groove for christmas and I lost it (guess where) in Florida. I don't think it would have ended up in water as I threw it at "The Quarry" north of tampa and the wind took it way out over the trees. Bought my Turbo Putt back when it was still PDGA approved, and still have it today! I'm almost glad it's useless on the field, because it's a nice goofy shelf piece to have around! QuestAT had some cool ideas, and I'm glad they got to put them out there. Considering they (at the time) had the backing of Gateway, I'm surprised they couldn't get more of their niche discs to PDGA approval.

Altough the hype around Sinus har cooled of because of other os approach discs within Trilogy its still a very popular mold and found in high ranked players bag. Nikko used to bag them with great result. Feldberg may not be a MPO dominant player anymore but its still one mold from L64 that he wont take out of his mixed bag. I don’t know if its weird enough for this list, but I have the elevation koi and people think its really bizarre because its super floppy. If you throw it hard enough into the side of the basket, it can bend through the holes and go in which as of 2022 counts as a good shot. Very few discs out there that are flexible enough to do that

I also found a Champion Groove in some water lol. It actually threw ok but I didn't keep it. Saw a Turbo Putt at the pro shop and held it but didn't try it or buy it. Thought about it but didn't. I have an Epic but don't bag it. Pretty much a useless disc in my opinion. I do bag the Tilt though. It comes in handy for certain situations. My most understable disc is my 133g #1 driver. It's also beat to hell but still flies as good as it did when it was brand new. Great for low power hyzer flip/turnovers.

As a player with stupidly accurate tomahawks (I got the hand of them and threw them for like two years as my primary drive before I learned to backhand properly) I love my Epics! Now that I can backhand drive well, I usually only reach for it when confronted with a strong head wind. In those conditions, I actually drive my farthest (YES into a headwind I drive my farthest) because the Epic can either just continue to corkscrew, or barrel roll once before leveling off and gliding out like a backhand drive drive, but from 50ft up, depending on how you bend it before throwing.

I own all them actually. The weirdest disc you didn't mention (also by Quest AT) and maybe more weird than the Turbo Putt is The Wheel. It was literally designed to do nothing but rollers. Huge double sided concave, giant rounded edges for rolling. Thing was nuts. Quest actually was the first company to also take on overmolds as well. They were always pushing the boundaries on what fit the tech specs. Gateway made a disc called the Diablo DT that had dimples like a golf ball but only on the rim itself. It was supposed to cause lift while eliminating drag. It worked till it hit the ground and the dirt filled the dimples and the disc got damaged. Lat64 also made another disc with the pads. It was called the Spike. Was a neutral putter with awesome glide. Surprised it wasn't more popular. Pretty good list you put together. Keep it up!

In 1994 or 95 I had a disc that had a dimpled top like a golf ball, the dimples were about a quarter of an inch and went to about an inch and a half to the edge it was either a Discraft or a Gateway, dark blue, bought it at a convenience store close to Veterans Park in Arlington Texas, loved that disc.

It was Neither but was by DynamicDisc one word or original name Destiny Disc brand that was ban from saying molds were PDGA approved as the company made some molds that were also made in weights above the maximum limit for the molds above 175 grams for 21 cm molds, above 180 gram size and above 190 gram size as well as above 200 gram size for a catch disc they said was. This is different from Gateway where they make molds heavier then minimum but do label them as not PDGA approved on the disc and even if somebody stripped the stamp off, the mold has a stamp on the underside saying not PDGA approved that is a etched in type stamp.

I know someone who owns a Groove. He hates it but won't give it up. I've borrowed it for a few shots, and I've had the most success using it as a thumber and it rolls quite well. But perhaps it's proof how inconsistent their production runs were. ...A disc I own that has a similar behavior is the Prodigy X3. But it definitely doesn't thumb as far as that Innova Groove.

I have a disc called a vigil from a company called cross lap discs. It has something like a bead, but it’s halfway between the bottom of the rim and the flight plate. Super weird feeling, but flies okay. The main problem IMO is that the rim is already really shallow and this “bead” makes it feel even smaller. Never seen a review, so thought I’d mention it.

Forgot the Innova Condor as it is a 200 Gram max diameter ROC that Yes is PDGA approved since that came out roughly 5 years before I started playeing. The other big one from Innova is the Nova missing as that is so odd with the over mold design. Then you forgot the Monach a more loved disc then similar current Champion Groove most by those who like Innova discs. The other main Arobie disc back when the Disc golf discs were made was the Arrow putter, often used as a roller disc by those who did not use them as uphill downhill putters beuause they should have had a negative glide to the disc mold. Also, you do see the Sinus on the Pro/former National tour especially on the Silver Series, a few of the Latitude 64 or other brands made 100% by Latitude 64 sponsored players do use the disc due to the glide being crappier then what the brand says especially with a worn in puddle top and this works well an approach disc.

Quest AT was the brand. Also, the 10 meter putter that orginal was a stiff mold at stiffest allowable tolerances that type of plastic got stiffer over time to the point of shattering and even just cold temps not yet frezing or hitting a tree would do thos, then when discs were found in St Louis Dumpster behind Gateway, the molds were dumped there the new owner made the discs in Beloit Illinois/near there it became a disc as floppy as an Aerobe Squdgie or what ever that floppy Aerobe catch disc was called, it was the floppiest PDGA approved disc golf disc on the market ever, floppier then the also odd Steady Ed Special Discs from DGA, the Blowfly/II, the Gumputt, Gumputt Driver, and oop Gumputt putter that was a more grippy plastic Gumputt almost like eraser plasric from Gateway. The 10 Meter Putter made it so the PDGA had to imediatly write in rules so a mold could not have that center weight or made rules so a mold could not be made that way. Same thing happend with Areobie Epic change was made to rules so offset inner rims could not be made on a mold.

I have thrown or seen quite a few of these. Owned a few Grooves, owned a few Rasks, had some Sinus as well. M5 looked like the discraft Duece. I did see some of the discs with the insertable rings while living in St. Louis. The wheel which was not mentioned as it was not approved was a strange one, designed for rolling was for me a total toss up on where it would go.
@caseysmith544
@caseysmith544 2 жыл бұрын
Wheel was approved for a 6 month period just in time for one PDGA Worlds and about the only big tournament it was used at where the one at the time Sponsored Discraft player had the disc in the bag secretly and used it as a last minute extra extra long hole nearly 2000 feet as a forehand roller to basically cheat a win with the roller using the flat mowed grass to his advantage on the nearly 2000 feet hole. This was the least deserving win at a Disc Golf World Championships ever and this was by Eric McCabe. Soon after about a year or two after the win, right after he helped make those Discraft videos, Eric McCabe helped to be a partner in getting Dynamic Discs going as a brand, dropping his sponsorship immediately after they could clone a low dome Buzz for him.

You didn’t mention discrafts version of the groove called the wave but they all flew different one waaay understable and the next one so over stable it might as well be a flick lol

The same grip patches of the Sinus have also been implemented with the Spike. I like it. It feels especially good for forehanding the disc, gives you a good, reliable grip. If I remember correctly they don't manufacture the grip pads anymore since they are prone to quality issues. But if you find one, try it out. People were bashing them in the day because they felt awkward in their opinion but honestly, if you don't like that part of the disc, grip it elsewhere. The Sinus and the Spike are both very good molds, the Spike is a deep alternative to an overstable approach disc and the spike is a nice, slightly understable putter that is actually pretty easy to throw forehands with due to it being shallow and the grippy texture.

The Raketen also has the grip patches.

@@jessesherlock1204 you're right, I totally forgot! The Raketen and the Missilen have the same surface design as a golf ball does to reduce drag. I think they're OOP for the same reason tho. They should've been mentioned in this video imo. 👍🏻

The Long Ranger was given away by the case at Morley Field S. D. With max hyzer it would turn into a roller as the only way to get any distance. Go for getting you into trouble 😈

I bought a driver and a putter that were made by Cheng, and they have grooves on top for where you’re supposed to put your thumb. I dont know anyone else who used one or had one lol

i watched someone tune an Aerobie Epic and throw a tomahawk which flattened out mid flight about 980' once it landed. theres a reason they approved it then yanked the approval shortly after

I actually turbo putt a lot. My regular putting is ass, and I am just somehow better at turbos. Bought a Quest set just for the turbo putter. Hated using it. Went back to turbo putting my DX Aviar. The knurled edge is nice, but that weird spiral in the middle makes it come off my hand all off angle.

Nobody ever addresses the wheel, one of the worst roller discs ever (which was designed as a roller) actually flew decent on a regular throw and would just stick to the ground.
