On German television in the year 2019, we also got a movie where people can vote on the ending. It was essentially one long courtscene about a pilot killing the passengers on his plane to save the lives of people in a stadium watching a soccer match. It presented the case and when the jury retired to find a verdict, the audiences at home were asked to vote on the ending. So you could either see him convicted, because he killed 100 people or set free because he saved millions. It's the basic trolley problem. Anyways, the audience decided to free the dude and later that night, the movie was repeated with the other ending and afterwards there was a discussion about the vote. It was boring as f**k tho...

That’s what Baron Cohen does in almost all of his shows. They are almost never staged. In his talk shows like Bruno and Ali G, everything is improvised, and seeing the guest’s reaction, it’s hilarious. I’d recommend watching a few episodes, they’re all around KZbin

I'd say it is a gimmick. Many directors use it on specific parts of the film in order to get more organic results. I've heard some stories from Tarantino where he knew that the only way to get the scene he wanted was through improvisation.

One gimmick thing was actually in the video game Quantum Break. It had a short, tie-in TV series with episodes that bridge the gap between chapters of the game, or shows what happened from the antagonist’s point of view. Depending on your choices in the game, what happens in the show changes. It’s pretty simple but it’s a neat idea, especially for a game, and I wish more things tried that out.

I remember watching 1917 in a 4D cinema where I think the only effects were slightly moving seats, lights that flashed when explosions occurred, a wind blower and a water sprayer that was basically on par with one squirt from a spray bottle. In the end the film didn't really use the effects all that much.

That sponsorship at the beginning of the video is how they should have made the 2012 battleship movie. All jokes aside, DB I wanted to say something if you have the time. I didn't get a chance to say this last week, so I wanted to say so now. I've been watching you since ruined forever was originally a thing, and you've probably been one of the biggest influences of my life. I was sad that the series ended, but I'm so glad it did because something so much better came from it (in quality and community). You are an awesome person and you truly are one of a kind. I'd love to talk to you some time (Although if this is getting too weird just ban me from the channel), but I just wanted to say thank you for making such a big impact, for a lot of us. A lot of horror movies use low frequency sounds that can only really be replicated with high end sound systems so you only get the full effect in a theater. Low frequency sounds can't be heard by human but they can be felt, which causes feelings of uneasiness and fear. It's why a lot of scary movies, like Paranormal Activity, are a lot less scary when you watch at home.

I remember there were exclusive Sharkboy glasses and Lava Girl glasses at theaters when watching the film, and that was dopeeee. A few theaters gave you free earphones if you watched Into The Spider-Verse. When Endgame rereleased they rolled out posters to cinemas as well. there’s more just cant think…

My favorite black and white movie gimmick is one where they the audience got handed paper signs and got to vote at the end if the killer should get away or be arrested, and ostensibly they'd play the reel for the audience's choice. but in actuality they only filmed the killer being arrested and just shot a normal movie.

Hey bolt, you should check a horror podcast episode on dead meat, it's all about horror gimmicks in theater, it's very engaging. have a very nice day. Also a good example of a 3d movie were the 3d is overwhelming is Friday the thirteenth part 3.

I cannot remember the title, but there was another detective film where there were many "clue breaks," where the audience were encouraged to discuss the identity of the killer after various important lines of dialogue: now THAT is interesting because it promotes something we've nearly lost: IRL HUMAN CONNECTION
