Actually I remember reading a story about Karl's free throw. The Jazz recommended that he see a Sports Therapist to try and talk things out if he got stressed or something (The beginning, this, is something iffy in my memory, apologies) and eventually he did go. The topic was on his free throws and with what Malone said to the shrink gave them the idea that Malone over thought during his freethrows, with this the Shrink recommended he takes this off his mind by saying something and pre-occupying his mind in the now. This lead to him whispering something, which did end up helping.

@@donovinyt9911 - It was during the 1997 NBA Finals (Sunday, June 1, 1997; Game 1 - Jazz at Bulls). Malone, nicknamed "The Mailman" 'cause he "always delivered" had 2 free throws. Score tied with about 9 seconds left, the free throws COULD win the game for the Jazz. Scottie Pippen whispered into Malone's ear "you know the mailman doesn't deliver on Sundays". Malone missed both, Bulls won.

Seriously though, I’ve been a softball player ( and in many other sports I went to state championships in) since I was 7 years old, and many of us have the same “rituals” when we get up to the plate. Usually has something to do with adjusting the shirt, pants, belt, tapping cleats, hitting home plate with the bat, definitely messing with the ball cap lol. Not enough to piss the pitcher off, mind you, I’m a firm believer in good sportsmanship. Anyway, I was laughing with a player buddy of mine the other day, talking about these rituals that some of us had, and we discovered that off the field we couldn’t replicate it, which is so bizarre. I guess it’s just something that the body does when you’re actually on the field playing. The other thing is, that when I’m playing ball, I’m diving for it, sliding, getting totally banged up with bloody knees. But at work, when I have to bend down to get something, I’m like aaarrgghhh. I can get down, but I suffer getting back up. Lolol.
