The weirdest pen I have is probably a kit pen that I put together using stacked leather. I try to stay away from the usual woods and resins, so I like experimenting with materials like shells, bone, antler, leather, etc... My second weirdest is one made with Galveston beach sand (which is mostly tiny bits of sea shell with very little actual sand) with abalone inlay. I'm tempted to try terra cotta next.

I love Stipula a lot. Such an overlooked brand of many fabulous pens. I own nine of them. The brilliant Da Vinci is one. It’s the best retractable nib fountain pen I own or have ever used. Sheaffer’s snorkel fillers are some of my firm favorites, both as a filling system and the pens themselves. The PFMs are the best of them. These types of videos are always the most entertaining to watch on any channel.

I have a snorkel with a wraparound nib. It was a multi-day process to repair and it still doesn't seem to have the full capacity. You can't check because the ink is in a sac. I think it's interesting from an engineering standpoint, but I'm happy to live in the cartridge converter era and for all the other pens that have ink windows or demonstrator bodies.

Hi Brian!: Have to say that Rotring is still about the strangest pen I've ever seen! Followed closely by that Parrot pen! The "lets put all the materials into one pen" Delta is right up there! I already have a touchdown and a vacuum fill Sheaffer. Thanks for making the cool video!

My weirdest pen is a vintage keyring pen that looks like a tiny wine bottle when closed. Unlike the Opus 88 wine bottle pen, it becomes an almost normal-looking and quite comfortable pen when posted. It has a tiny 18k gold nib with some nice flex, although it's quite scratchy, and the ink flow isn't great (not to mention the very small ink capacity), so it's definitely not a pen I'd use for longer texts, but it's great fun. I like to use Robert Oster Astorquiza Red as "wine" in it.

I grabbed about ten of those Rotring Cores from a shop that was selling them off for about £1 each. I still have seven of them. If you store them nib down they can remain unused for months and not dry out, which is useful as I have some inked with red and green ink for marking up hard copy reports, which is less and less of a daily exercise in this digital age.

My daily fountain pen is the Schrade Tactical Fountain Pen. The distal end of mine is thicker and doesn't taper down and I can screw the cap on to it, also the writing grip area is smooth and contoured for comfort, so there might be several versions. I should really not carry that pen around because it's my favorite pen, and I can't replace it if it breaks (they have broken on me before) or I lose it. It's got good heft for writing, but not heavy enough to weigh down a pocket or wherever I stash it. My nib is a wet nib, and I've had one in the past that was even wetter. The best part is they take short international standard cartridges, so it's easy to get, and I have found a converter that works well for it.

Hi, Brian! Most amusing and entertaining! I have the Dragon pen in gold, but it has black bands instead of red. Just too much of a novelty to pass up. Years ago, I had a snorkel pen. I have no idea what the brand was, and I‘m sure it was not expensive (or did someone who had it from somewhere, a parent maybe, give it to me?). It was at the time only my second fountain pen. While I really liked it and the snorkel filling mechanism, it leaked badly. Every time I used it, I would have ink all over my hands. Not very practical, so at some point I got rid of it. I rather regret that today. Perhaps there was a leaking O-ring or something like of that nature that could have been repaired relatively easily. Oh, well.

Brian, your multicolor plastic pen looks very much like Pelikan's older economy student pens. I have something similar in my collection, with a green cap finial, yellow clip and band, hot pink grip, turquoise band between the section and barrel...you get the idea. Folded wrap nib, etc.

That's an interesting collection of pens. The strangest fountain pen that I ever used was way back when I was in 4th grade. I don't remember the brand or model. It was a black pen with a lever on the outside. I could fill it from a bottle of ink which could sit in a hole at the top of my school desk. The lever helped to fill the pen. It was like pumping water.

Thr Stipula Speed is a strange pen. Aesthetically "complex", ergonomically questionable, and a captive, nonremovable converter. Writes reasonably well, but hard to hold, and filling creates an impossible mess to clean with all the nooks and crannies in the grip section.
