It's crazy how the online for this era of games still works, All4One still has a few people playing if you play on a weekend, but FFA has nobody playing.

A4O, FFA & ITN might have the most controversial Ratchet design, but I just love how he looks. Makes him look scrunkly.

ACIT took all the budget so we got the cartoonier scrunk for the last half of PS3.

Yeah that was a pretty weird era but at least we got some entertaining things like the possibility of Nefarious getting a small redemption later in the series, "Into the Nexus" which was a fun epilogue for the Future story and PS3 era with fun gameplay mechanics, new weapons, and Ratchet X Talwyn moments, and it made R&C fans demand that Insomniac Games stop reusing the same weapons over and over again (the 2016 game was really guilty of that) which they fixed for Rift Apart. Not to mention we got the HD Collection of the original trilogy (and Deadlocked) during the series 10th anniversary. Still I rather get more games (kind of) like those from that era if it means getting more R&C. With all that has been happening at Insomniac Games and the video game industry recently, I think after they release Wolverine and Spider-Man 2 DLC IG should put everything non R&C on hold and make a slightly longer ITN length R&C prequel game where we play as Ratchet's father Kaden. Not only could I see this having a fun story, but it would be a great way to build up for the next big R&C game which fans agree will take place in the Lombax Dimension.

Good retrospective on these games, tbh I just took them for what they were when released. Since I got my PS3 for Christmas in 2011 and already considered myself a big fan of the series knowing there was a bunch of RaC content I missed out on with more to come soon (which includes the collection) had me satisfied regardless of the experimental era games issues. Btw despite Nexus sales being relatively low for the series it still made profit even with under 700k sold at $30 which includes discounts (still hate how all the recent information regarding the series performance and more comes from a terrible hack but knowledge is knowledge I suppose). It's also wild to think that in less than 5 years there were two spin-offs, a smaller scope main entry and a movie with a tie-in game/reimagining while it took 5+ years for another main game to release (which I don't mind at all). So fast forward to now we're at the point where IG is planning a final send off with finally exploring a plot point that's been established since 2007 and planning to take more time than ever in pre-production (at least before the layoffs happened) and for whatever reason some fans are upset about that. This is ridiculous because they should know that pretty much outside of the original game and A4O IG *never* got the time for development they truly wanted but that's another topic entirely.

Yeah, that's true. People who know IG past history with crunch (which is non-existent for them today) should understand why, it's a great thing for them to take all the time and care that's going to be put into the next game and series as a whole now. A fully cooked R&C game, is better than a half baked one. I recommend people to watch the Golden Bolt's retrospective on the future series, he explains a bit about that.

Couple of pretty good points in this video- I think the design changes due to the gameplay being more busy was a pretty interesting anecdote. I think there’s something to be said about Insomniac’s release catalogue as a whole between 2011-2016. The studio put a greater focus on chasing trends (tower defense, mobile games, etc.) Even though you mentioned that they felt motivated to create new games it seemed as if they were trying to chase existing trends to be relevant in a changing market rather than doing something that felt fun or faithful to the series. I think variation is what the series needed at the time but I think the time constraints led to some lower quality products even outside of R&C (Particularly Fuse, Resistance 3).

All 4 One is where I checked out of the series. A Crack in Time would have been a great ending but it's nice that we got Into The Nexus. Nice video Red! I agree with a lot of what you've said.

It might be just me thinking it; I believe R&C works best when dealing with galactic and universal threats, so the scope of the adventures always have to be larger than imaginable. In fact, Ratchet and Clank are uniquely qualified to be Playstation's version of DC's Flash where their adventures and events could potentially create adventures in other Playstation games. That's just me though
@REDRatchet7 ай бұрын
I’ve never thought of it that way but that’s really interesting! Yeah especially with the many different types of dimensions, that opens up the possibility towards things like that.

Instead of Full Frontal Assault (Aka QForce), we should’ve gotten a Sonic Generations style Ratchet & Clank game, where you could play as both the PS2, and PS3 Ratchet & Clanks. I mean sure, it would’ve been the same gameplay, but Rift Apart had the same gameplay despite Ratchet, Clank, Rivet, and Kit shared the same gameplay style.

Having played every Ratchet & Clank game in the series, I really enjoyed what Insomniac Games was trying to do in that era. A4O will always be my favorite one, next to Nexus, it was fun playing with my sister and cousins. The story is a banger, the series signature humor is there and the gameplay was fun overall. FFA is my least favorite out of the 3, it had it's moments, but the story was the weakest in the series imo. Nexus story was nice, but I wished half of the new weapons had returned, they were awesome. I've been riding with the series since I was a kid, I have no plans on ever leaving the duo, I grew up with. Good times and bad, I'm here, but I'm believing more highs for these two, in this new era.
