I’ve watched this series prob four or five times and yet I could watch clips all day.

"I was wrong." Three little words, that most people would sooner tear their own tongues out than utter.

President Wilson - "We have been following the schedule you established, Mr. Helmsley. The most important schedule in the history of mankind. Now you're telling me we have to throw it out? Dr. Helmsley - "Yes Sir, I was wrong" President Wilson - "Do you know how many times I've heard those words in this office? Zero" 2012

What a foreign concept in today's politics or public life in general! Taking responsibility and admitting guilt without any caveats!! Raised his image in the eyes of the voters, opponents, and viewers of the show!

I'm still amused by the moment where the President is trying to get Leo to support him on letting him hang up that map of the Middle East. And Leo stops him right before he says anything to say the exact same thing everyone else had said about the map.

It's like when Leo is excited to enlist Lord Marbury's support for the missile defense shield, only to be sorely disappointed.

Imagine if a president (or former president) today had the guts and the heart to say "I'm to blame".

Won’t ever happen. Politicians can’t help but lie and blame the other guy.

I love how when they go outside it's not snowing then Leo says it's not that cold out because he's supposed to be seeing snow falling but the prop guy forgot to start throwing the fake snow until after he said the line.
@PaperbackWizard7 ай бұрын
It's usually less cold when it's snowing in real life, too, because the cloud cover traps in more heat.

"the manifest injury of the American people." You can't say that Congress doesn't love its drama and overstatement.
@saoirsevicteoiria27597 ай бұрын
In 2024 I think we should all be well aware that election interference is a manifest injury. Do I think Bartlet should be disqualified for having MS? No. Do I think he should have been required to admit it to the American people? No. Do I understand why a politician might try to hide it, because the press can be insane? Yes. But Bartlet did not hide his MS, nor ask his family to hide it, because of privacy. He says himself that he did it because he wanted to be President. He also tells Vinick, about Vinick's lack of church-going, that the American people get to decide what matters to them. I don't know where the line is, or should be. I believe people, even politicians, even world leaders, have a right to privacy, and I think their religious practices shouldn't matter, their health should be private. But in this case, whether it was because he thought it shouldn't matter or not, Bartlet did hide his MS expressly to hide it from the voters. At that point, it doesn't really matter what you're hiding -- it's election interference, and Bartlet knows that.
@PaperbackWizard7 ай бұрын
It's not an overstatement, though. He kept important information from the American people while running for president. That's the whole point of him accepting the blame here.

The Donald Trump story - oh, wait, that's the alternate universe Trump
@patmaurer85418 ай бұрын
Integrity is very Presidential. We should make that a requirement for the job. I remember when President Carter sent a team to rescue some hostages, with tragic results. He came on tv to speak directly to us, and took full responsibility. Basically, that he made the best decision possible based on the information available--and it was wrong. He took a lot of criticism for it, but it made me have MORE confidence in him as a leader.
@ReaverLordTonus8 ай бұрын
Yet at the end we hear congress still condemning him. Him willing to accept responsibility not withstanding, in politics, people who don't like you will jump at any opportunity to bring you down.

@PaperbackWizard7 ай бұрын
@@keithduvall812 It's much, much worse under Trump. No president before him (and hopefully no president after him) has tried to maintain power after it became clear it was no longer his. Even Nixon had the decency to resign when his crimes became apparent.
