its awesome you are showing another guys products. you are a stand up dude. I can pick up a MS400 in absolut like new condition for $700 from a guy. I was thinking of doing that and adding WCS bark box, dogs, air kit, and clutch cover. I'd only be in it for the same amount of a new stock MS400 from the dealer. I think it will be good and as i learn about porting from you and others, maybe I can tackle a small port job on it 6 months from now when i have the knowledge and confidence. In the meantime, I hope to get a little improvement from the WCS products. Do you think that is a good plan? thanks man

Never ever ever had an issue with chip management, been logging over 30 years. Good on me! Walking a chain back is for when you dont want to walk back up THAT hill to your truck which is 3/4 mile away in a tornadic blizzard leftover from hurricane Katrina..

Right!!! They are done on a crazy CNC... its wild... above my head but he was telling me about it and it blew my mind... hell I thought it was crazy it was made out of a solid piece... hell of a lot of waste but thats how Gordy rolls man 💯

You are exactly right I've been buying from West Coast saw for a long time their products are the best they are made to last there was a ratchet scrunch about a month ago I ordered from them I get an email two days later staying Gordy was testing it out and it did not last at all so they have to go back from the person they got it from and fix the product before he will sell it they refunded my money in full and told me they would tell me as soon as more came in I thought that was amazing

Everything that I have purchased from WCS has made a big improvement on all my saws bark box, felling dogs etc. I will be ordering magnesium clutch cover for my STIHL ms 661.

I have bought the side clutch cover 3 point dogs also bark box for my new 500i loving each product really made well also John am a huge fan of your 500i thing is a beast would love to get mine ported the throttle response is great just a little rich on the high end while falling if that makes sense wondered if a max flow or green weenie would help that or just need to be ported lol thanks

Nice 👌 Gordy definitely makes some good products 💯... and I would upgrade the filter on your 500 regardless tbh... its just a better system with those foam filters... the WCS stack and green weenie are a completely sealed system if you are okay with running no filter cover... otherwise I would just get the maxflow kit ... the 500s do load up at the top end and believe it or not a bigger sprocket can help that... keep it from tuning itself rich and 4 stroking... worth a shot 🤷‍♂️ otherwise yes you would probably need to do some cylinder work

I've have a mystery with one of these covers. Running 3/8x8 Oregon rim, 32" Stihl Lite .063 gauge bar and Oregon 75 CK (semi skip) chain, when I tighten the bar nut closest to the clutch the drive links get squeezed in the bar groove between the WCS cover and the inner (only) bar plate and the chain won't spin freely. I backed the nut off slightly (freeing the chain), started the saw, revved it up and tightened the bar nut slowly until it started binding, smoking (from friction heat) and discolored the rails. I did this to find out what and where the problem was occurring. It's at the upper rails/groove right above the stud closest to the clutch. What is so weird is that the WCS cover doesn't even come up that high on the bar. This does not occur with a Stihl Lite 36" bar, any Oregon Power Match bar or any Cannon bar. This same 32" Stihl Lite bar does not pinch with the stock cover or on any other small stud Stihl saws. I'm completely baffled. I'm a western faller, 64 years old and have been cutting my entire working career. I have always done all my own saw work including complete rebuilds. I'm going to cut the "wings" off of a bar plate and put it between the WCS cover and the bar and see what happens. Other than that I've tried everything. (Just thought of something else to try- widening the bar groove past .063 above and below the bar stud slot on a Bar Shop machine.) I'll post my findings should anyone else be having this problem.

I'm getting the impression that what many initially may've seen as a "choke point" & weakness (IE the tightness of casing around sprocket), it's a give/take between choking the chips from going-over the clutch, versus sprockets.....WCS, at that price, should make multiple rubbers based on sprocket-size so the choke-point, which prevents up&over the clutch of chips (for their product & Stihl XL's), can be sized for the right pin# sprocket, I mean you could just grind one I guess and no biggie? I'll say I'm bothered nobody is posting the weight difference, am glad you mention it *is* heavier (matters if you're using it aloft, at least tiny guys like me) but surprised they don't just print the weight (and relative-to-OEM XL weight%) when you're paying that much for one... Love the idea of steel bosses/pins for the rubber (and agree wholeheartedly at not using alum or mag-alloys for anything structural, so to speak, like the carb bolt-ups on the intake-wall) (NOTE-- someone's post is pinned saying 93gram heavier, "just", this is all relative I mean 1lbs is

If your chain hasn’t gotten loose and it gets thrown, it’s usually because it got snagged while trimming small limbs or brush and the RPMs were too low. If you’re running a 32”, 36”, or longer bar, you can often make just enough slack to walk the chain back onto the rim sprocket by bending the bar slightly sideways. A more flexible light bar like a Sugihara, Tsumura, or the old Oregon PowerMatch make this pretty easy. I’ll hike back to the truck for a scrench before I’ll attempt it with a fullweight Stihl Rollomatic ES. Way too rigid.

Walking the chain back on is for when you're cutting and the chain gets loose and jumps off the bar. Big ass gap means I don't have to take the cover off to put the chain back on the bar.

The side by side comparison clearly shows the West coast chips are flooding in front of the saw. Like all over the wood your cutting and the oem cover doesn’t shoot the chips all out in front of saw and all over the wood your cutting. Idk wat this means but it’s just a clear observation I see.

As soon as WCS figures out how to do the captive nuts I am all in. The 3 point dogs are working well for me. The wcs air filter is next upgrade I will be doing on my ms 462c.
