The thing that annoys me about Stihl is the price of their parts. Wrap handle for a big Stihl? $200. Same thing for a Husky? $60. Huskie also does their fall/spring sale which makes them 25% cheaper. Gotta pay for all that marketing.

I work at a company that is a dealer for Stihl. If you have time and keep your eye on the inventory in a store, sometimes they have a unit that has been on the shelf for a year or more like I had a 462 and we have very little walk in business because our main line is heavy equipment , parts and service. Stihl increases prices often and the 462 was in my inventory for almost a year and a half and a guy really liked it so in order to move it I gave him a 2 year old price vs the current price which is quite a bit of savings, you just have to ask if they can do better on price. My cost was low enough so the company still makes a profit and the customer saves about 200 bucks depending on the model. Just thought I'd throw it out there. Great video and good safe saw work 👍

I love my 620. I run a 28” Tsumura bar with full comp chain and it does well in soft woods but I have to baby it in hardwoods with that bar and chain otherwise it will bog down. @smorgdonkey Жыл бұрын
@@dp1381 I got mine mid week and it wasn't fun to start but after it was going...I really enjoyed it. I am not used to that kind of power as I normally run a 45 cc saw. Cutting with it was akin to using a light saber for me the way that it tore through the wood. I used it again today and I didn't fight it as much to start it. The power is so nice, and not having to bend to buck is great. I think I may have to adjust the high jet though as it often stumbles momentarily in the cut...not bogging down but an odd sputter sound then back to normal. I am guessing it needs a bit of a fatter mix on the high. I will probably put off the adjustment a bit to see how it breaks in. Only 1 tank of fuel through it so far.

With the 462 its perfect straight from the shop. Ive got an aussie 500i (i was told they make more power than US versions by a saw builder) i run 98 octane fuel only in mine, i have all Gordys accessories. The barbox and intake stack (i felt) made it into a complete animal even without porting. I recently had a 42' bar on, with a full comp chain (not jking) and cross cut a 40' Aussie iron bark (its like concrete) stump. And it tore through it! A few American guys said it was too big a bar and no way full comp chain. I did it as an experiment. And im telling you i was amazed. Then i saw gordy run a 42' bar on instagram and people were freaking out in the comments. I havent bothered porting it and i never get my 066 out anymore. I run 30:1 and 98octane. I really think the 98 makes a massive difference (plus the exhaust and intake), ive watched so many videos of american ported 500s running 36' bars and guys are blown away and honestly the times are the same or similar to my unported 500. I did notice once i added the accessories that the idle changed a lot, sounded deeper and way more aggressive. Sean griggs (saw builder) reckons they are really restricted stock but if you let them breathe the computer has potential to make BIG power
@josephdignam123 Жыл бұрын
Most importantly the timber in Australia is 20 times harder than most of the US timber…!! I think the 500i can retard and advance the ignition timing depending on the fuel (and fuel/oil mix)… I only mention this because 98RON is in no way more potent than 95 or 91. The RON rating is the fuels resistance to early ignition or “knock”. 98 is specified only by OEMs for high performance, high compression engines that will experience detonation (knock or Pinging) with a lower rated fuel. The 500i - even if the base gasket was deleted, still wouldn’t have enough compression to pre-ignite 91 or 95RON fuels! In fact the Stihl manual states the requirement of 90RON. Point is, there is likely very little factual or 0 measurable benefit in running 98. Most of it is fuel company marketing bullshit and the important science behind it all gets forgotten. I hope I can save you a few dollars in fuel costs

I don't use a saw enough to ever wear it out, nor will I need a big bar (I bought a 20" to put on as the 28" it came with was a bit much). Figured in 40 years I can fix a carb, fuel injection parts may not exist. (I'm running into this with my 30 year old trucks, can find parts but they're junk right out of the box 75% of the time). As much as I'll need it, my kids will be tuning it up when I'm gone. My Dad's Stihl 029 is still going 30 years later, and never an issue.

We've been running the 500i saws for about 2 years almost every day. No problems except the oil leak when stored, and we see that with all of our saws, old and new, regardless of brand. Seems to be a rule with chainsaws. All saws must leak oil if you let them sit for more than a couple hours. It's just the law of the land. Otherwise, the 500 is commonly everything for us in between a top handle and a 880. The other saws have been reduced to pinch recovery and quick sharp tooth when the 500s are dull backups.

Jake, huskys have been a thorn in my side for 30 years or more. Steihl or dolmar these days, very glad to see you back, man, and yeah, we all miss Jed. Thanks again to Gordy, the best damn tuner in the world!!!!

Just so you know Dolmar's are not the same as they once were mikita owns them n makes them Makita acquired Dolmar in 1991

I’ve used husky’s for a long time and no issues other than normal things that any other saw would have….proper 2 stroke oil and tuning is key along with proper maintenance..

His 7900 was stock, a properly ported 7900 Dolly or Makita will hang with the 500i and at half the cost.

Honestly reassuring to know that even the pros use their saws like forestry mulchers sometimes

Had a guy I did a small job on a farm with say I couldn’t do that with my 271 whilst we were down in the woods and I said okay you walk back to the truck and get a strimmer and I’ll just do the small trees. By the time he got back I had finished the whole job including the oak that was buried in the brambles we “needed” the strimmer for. Smarter not harder and all that
@Aubatron Жыл бұрын
@@cooperhughes2659 Yeah it is quick and efficient for sure, you just can't get comfortable swinging the chainsaw around like a trimmer. Always gotta be aware of the danger. A lot of people get hurt when they're too comfortable with a specific tool and stop paying attention, that's the real danger.
@cooperhughes2659 Жыл бұрын
@@Aubatron 100% man. Complacency is the biggest killer when it comes to any operation of machinery, big or small. Can even apply to cars. You see people get so stuck into autopilot they don’t notice the little things going wrong around them

I’ve got a 500i a 261 a husky 550xp and a 592xp. The two stihls are awesome saws as are the husky’s when their working! Never had any problems with stihl saws but I’m always pulling my hair out with the husky’s!

Yep, Stihl for me. Bought my 044 brand new in 1995 for $749; took the Rollomatic bar off & added a 20” Duromatic E. Stihl full chisel chains throughout the years. Just cut up a massive oak yesterday (10-22-2023) and it has NEVER given any trouble! My favorite saws throughout the years were the 026, 038 Magnum (excellent saw!), 034AV, and still have my 028AV Super. 044 is just bulletproof😎bone stock.

You definitely have to port it to cut with a long bar.. stock they don't cut well over 32in. Especially in the face cut.

I just fixed my 034 stihl. It had a cut in the oiler line. I replaced the line and its back to new. Im not sure if the 592 is similar but it was a fairly easy fix. Send it to me if you want. Cheers

Hey Jacob you did a video just recently where you used a double pully to rig down a branch but used it in a way I never seen before. Like it was a 2to1 pulley to help lift it. Could you maybe explaine how you rigged it. Or maybe even a video would be great. Thanks man.

I've had my 500 for just over a year, and I love it. Yes, it's expensive, but I completely agree with Jake. The power/weight ratio is awesome, especially cause I'm a smaller guy. I've ran this hard in the rain, the snow and the heat of eastern washington. Zero issues

Add advanced years/old age and that's where I am. The 500 allows me to have a strong saw without needing steroids to run it all day.

I personally don't enjoy running it with over a 25in bar.. any bigger I use 661. Fun fact.. it beats an 25in on an 881 in the cut. And if you leave the suspension loose it's as smooth as butter at 25in
