I grew up playing in this hotel in the 70's when my dad worked here as Food & Beverage Director. The hotel and lobby interior design was completely different then, it had a dark red carpeting everywhere and there was a round sunken bar in the middle of the lobby with built in couches, it was swank! Then there was an elaborate Trader Vics restaurant which was like stepping into Polynesia 1940's. The waterfall area looks exactly the same and even the sound of the waterfall in that space I recognized right away. At the top of the waterfall there used to be a poolside restaurant, now I see it is a gym. The shopping area when you are going up the steps was like going back in time, the same wood paneling on the first stores, and the store on the left used to be a candy store. I remember the Hallmark museum, Kaleidoscope and other groovy shops up there. We moved back to Seattle after spending three years in KC and I haven't been back since, but hope to visit one day and stay at the Crown Center. Anyway, thanks for the nostalgia!

Wow sounds like a completely different hotel back then I would have loved to have seen that. I'll definitely have to look up pictures. Sounds really cool

@@NicksDynasty My brother just visited last week, he was in Kansas City for some event and the first time he'd been there since we moved in 77. He said the hotel is so different than when we were kids, and the fancy restaurant that used to be at the top called "Top of the Crown" is no longer there, it is now an empty event space. He spoke to people who work there and they were sad the restaurant was gone. The shopping area that used to have independent eclectic stores was now a shopping mall. It seems the only thing the same was the waterfall and the pool!
