Wow Kansas City! Let us just start by saying that the people here are reason enough to visit. And it's because of the incredibly kind locals, that we were able to put this video together, so thank you! 💞
We had no expectations with this place. We spent 3 weeks house sitting and we didn't plan much because of all the work we had to catch up with, but thanks to everyone we met, we adventured out there to try some of the most popular local recommendations. And honestly guys, we barely scratched the surface. Kansas City has so much to offer and we hope to be back to make a proper video about everything there is to do in Kansas City, not just the food.
We hope you enjoy the video. Don't forget to eat something before you watch ;)
Thanks so much for being here and if you have any questions or recommendations, please leave them in the comments.
See you in the next video!
XO,
Aimara & Gordon

We have lived in Waldo for 7 years now and we frequent Black Hole, Neighborhood Cafe and Betty Rae's. Personally I stick to the smaller BBQ joints like LC's Bar-B-Q and Woodyard's, but theres so much Barbque here, you cant really go wrong, great Italian, Mexican, Thai, Indian.. Kansas City's food scene has really exploded the last 10 years. As a proud Kansas Citian, thank you so much for representing our city so well, hope you make it back again. ❤

I am an Oregon transplant to KC. The BBQ scene is ever changing - new places are always popping up and some are better than others. Authur Bryants is pretty a-ok but you also have Chef J and Harp BBQ - both are delicious. And then you have Wolfpack BBQ. And then... you get the idea. There are tons and most have something delicious to offer. Chili and Cinnamon Rolls - definitely a midwest thing - Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri - possibly more. If you see a restaurant called "Runza" and it's the right time of the year - you will see chili and cinnamon rolls offered on the same plate. They aren't TOGETHER on the plate- like you don't cover a cinnamon roll with chili but the flavors of each complement each other.

Burnt ends are most definitely NOT the leftovers. They're cut from the fattier end of the brisket called the point. They're usually then then thrown in some sauce and smoked a little more which makes them extra delicious. When I was in school the Oklahoma Joe's (in the gas station) was on my way to and from school. The line would form before they opened and it was fantastic. Didn't realize how lucky I was to have been able to eat there so much.

I'm from KC and yes Chili with Cinnamon Rolls is very common here. They served it at my elementary school too. KC has a lot of areas near by that also consider themselves Kansas City but it's more metro than city proper. One of my favorite places is a place called Blue Koi for their pork dumplings and their china moon (A crispy shrimp and scallion flatbread served with a house made sweet sauce that may be plum like)

I’m a Kansas City local, and chili with cinnamon rolls is more a Midwest thing than specifically KC. I’ve lived here my whole life and hadn’t heard of it until my wife-who is from a small town in Kansas-introduced me to it. Essentially, you put a cinnamon roll in a bowl and then cover it in chili to eat. It sounds SUPER weird, but it’s surprisingly good with the combination of sweet and savory.

Glad you guys got to try the Zman but I'm surprised so many people recommend Q39. Most people I know who live here (myself included) don't actually like it compared to our other famous options. I would have recommended Jack stack for the ribs and the cheesy corn. Also the pulled pork is to die for at any of our restaurants. Try that next time! Lamar's donuts is also a famous option you should try.

yea everyone we spoke with mentioned Q39, maybe because it was fairly close to where we were staying. It may not be a traditional 'sticky table' bbq joint, but we thought the food was excellent. We'll check out others like Jack Stack and Arthur Bryants next time! And Lamar's 😎

Hiyo, only place you missed that is a great place is called Wabash, and its over in Excelsior Springs Missouri. If you come back i highly recommend the sampler platter and corn fritters. Another place i recommend for breakfast is either Big Biscuit or Corner Cafe, both of which are in Liberty Missouri and the cinnamon rolls in both are amazing.

Next time yall come to KC do a BBQ tour haha!! Crossroads is more artsy but on the weekends during the day everyone goes to West Bottoms for antiques and food or just sleeping in from the nightlife at Power and Light! You guys should defintely try to experience a First Friday! If you like ice cream fairway creamery is by a local chocolatier if I recall and they sell his chocolates there. I had cinnamon rolls and chili at my school as a kid I think its a midwest thing. The cheese slipper originally was from a small hearth bakery called Fevere which Messenger has a bakery called Ibis that took it's place at one time but's no longer there. However, I don't feel the cheese slipper quality is as good as Fevere once was.

Crossroads is dead before like 6-8pm. Everyone passed out from Friday night XD Y'all hit Joes, which is top notch, but there is one on the Kansas side in the suburbs called Blind Box BBQ and it is a heavy contender.

So growing up in KC area if our school lunch had chili we were served a cinnamon roll too usually. And someimes peanut butter sandwich with chili. Not sure why on either. Glad you were treated nicely Oh and the chili wer're kind of known for is Dixons Chili. It's very different chili though, not for everyone and no cinnamon rolls there. Hope you visit our area again.

Interesting videos guys. I grew up in KC in the 60's-70's, and KC is where I was first exposed to BBQ. Although Joe's is ok, you failed to go to the most iconic, and BEST BBQ joint in the country: Arthur Bryant's BBQ at the corner of 18th and Brooklyn!! And 1 think I have to say about BBQ, and I've done competition BBQ when I lived in Utah, and have lived in TX for over 25 years... from a pit master's perspective.... if you need to drown your BBQ in sauce, we did something wrong!! Sauce should only be used when BBQ becomes leftovers and is reheated. When it's fresh off the smokers, it's AWESOME!!! and adding sauce is truly an insult... LOL!!! Thanks for the walk down memory lane of my old home town... although almost every place you went didn't exist when I lived there!

In Texas if you have to drown your bbq in a quarter inch of salt and pepper you’ve done something wrong.
