the wet fly swing

I show you a typical run and the wet fly swing. This is not a step by step tutorial but just a short video so you get a feel for swinging flies.
Around 2:40 in I get a touch from a fish. A tap and pull to be more exact. I make one cast and stay on the fish. I hook up with him on the second cast. This is a good example of working a fish.

Haha, I know I cut the fish off. I guess I'll have to talk to the camera man next time. LOL. I like using a standing 7 foot leader. I usually build my own with maxima. Typically the tippet will be around 6 lb and then up from there. 8lb, 10lb, 12lb, 15 lb, 20 lb. About a foot of each with an 18" tippet. I like tying a dropper off the main leader just above the first knot with a dropper loop. This rainbow took the steelhead fly which was pretty cool.

dave nice. Could you talk about rod and line setup.

No problem. The setup for swinging flies for trout is pretty much a 9' 6 weight rod. I like a 6 weight because it provides a little more backbone casting in the wind. But you can use this technique with just about any weight or length of rod. That's really the beauty. Although if you have steelhead in the river and you are swinging for trout I think a 6 weight is kind of the in between rod. You wouldn't want to have to land a steelhead with it but I have.
