Episode 1 - The Doll's Name Was Suzy 05-23-1954
Laura Haven, 28 and attractive and secretary treasurer of the small successful Kilby Stationary Company was worried and with reason for unless she found the means to replace $4000 of company funds she used in an unfortunate market venture before the stockholders annual audit scheduled in two weeks she faced certain dismissal and prosecution for embezzlement. But Laura was hopeful, certain she’d find a way to replace the money just as she’d found a way to replace smaller amounts in the past.
Episode 2 - Dark Pattern 06/13/1954
Norma and her lover Rick set a trap to kill her business partner Benjy Sloan in an explosion in his boat on the lake and now everything that Norma and Benjy jointly owned will be hers. However the sheriff’s office have dredge the lake and they still haven’t found the body. Norma has a terrible feeling that something has gone wrong.
Episode 3 - Stranger In The House 09/05/1946
Helen decided she might as well be honest with herself; the suspense was getting her down. It had been six years since her brother Ted had left for the Orient on that government mission just before Pearl Harbor and he was still out there somewhere between Manila and Shanghai, alive or dead. It had come to the point now where Helen was wishing for any kind of a message even one telling her Ted was dead, at least it would end the waiting at least it would be better that not knowing at all.
Episode 4 - Ticket To Paris 02-20-1949
The young attractive dark-haired girl looked out through the dirty windowpane of the old bookshop. She watched the rain as it fell on Olive Street. Then a few minutes after 10:00 she locked the shop door, turned out the light, and stood for a moment in the darkness. The sound of the thunder rang in the distance. She rubbed her arms and shuddered and then hurried through the darkened bookstore. She would always live in terror of the dark, of even the next moment so long as one man remained alive, the man who was living only to kill her. She had been forced into the back streets of obscurity to escape him. And although she despised this grim little bookshop where she worked for the old woman named Hattie Simmons, the job paid for her keep and provided her with more safety than she could find anywhere else. As she reached the door to her room at the back of the shop, she stopped and listened. There was someone in the room, searching the darkness. She threw open the door and switched on the light.
Trivia: The signature whistling at the beginning of all The Whistler movies was provided by Dorothy Roberts, backed by the theme's composer Wilbur Hatch and his orchestra.
