I love that line at 2:24. It felt like the verse was coming to an end, and instead it subverts the climatic moment with a raw visceralness that re-builds the tension. And the lyrics themselves add such depth to the love he feels, and it contrasts so well with the bitter hate of the other lyrics. And it ties it together with this unconditional love, between two people who are almost monster-like to each other and for each other. “You can't touch the way I feel There is no end to what I'd steal for you” It’s like Bonnie and Clyde, but if they lived to an old age. His raspy voice and almost alcoholic-like presence (is that even a thing?) really lends the song an air of genuineness that feels brutally honest. Love. Hate. Loyalty. Immorality. So many themes being explored and affirmed in one song. Most songs are interchangeable and can be performed successfully by many. But there is always a “voice” that fits the song perfectly. Like Johnny Cash with hurt. Or Whitney Houston singing “I will always love you.” Although in this case, this wasn’t a cover. Just an artist who has an amazing understanding of his own voice. 10/10.
