It IS a PR-stunt, AVIC is using it as a stand-in for 6th gen tech that they don't want so show for real, to promote the SciFi series, and in turn use the series to promote the airforce and themselves, because China is currently building its airforce faster in hardware than in personnel. The potential of trolling the west was probably considered a bonus extra if it happened, but probably wasn't anywhere near the main reason. Basically, you could say that it's a pseudo-mockup. It's not meant to look like anything real, just to look cool and attract people's attention. "silly hat" Nothing silly about it?

I remember when the Chinese retasked a satellite to take a closer look at the Top Gun Maverick prop for the Darkstar jet. I am guessing they are trying to troll the western audiences back with this mockup. Edit...LOL I commented before the end of the video.

Yes it doesn't make sense as a 6th gen aircraft. It was just a mock up - artists impression and not a real design.
