Yeah, the rawness of the music is supposed to be there. Its like how recordings used to be: one, maybe two takes, without any desire to make it sound perfect. The emotion is in the song, in his voice and the guitar playing. Much more human than when the sound is perfected in my humble opinion

A drummer's job is to set tempo to compliment the singer. That is from Ringo Star. Meg does not need to bang on every cymbal and head to make filler. Watch the live videos and you will see that her timing is perfect... even after a long rest she comes in write on time. Anybody who needs more than that from a drummer is a little overindulged.

I've found most people are put off by Jack's voice, but judging by the fact that you only got into a few songs, it seems more the gritty dirtiness of the guitar playing. That's what put me off a bit at first as a guitarist, until I realized just how much it tapped into my emotion.
