I wasn't sure what to think of this ages ago when I was made aware that The White Stripes covered this song and a few others, so I just left it for another day to revisit. I listened to it again recently and I was like "This is really good but also kind of weird, I wonder why I'm drawn to it"- and then I remembered that I like Primus and they're fuckin weird, so this seems par for the course lol

Beefheart is all you need here... i just could never take Jack White's voice. And he doesn't have an original bone in his body of work...so there's no comparison... i like some of his songs and that he works with vinyl i would give him mucho props for the 1st record. But there is only one Captain

Someone else is trying to figure out what is the lyrics meaning? I'm not an native english speaker, so it's harder to guess what he meant to say... It seems that he found a true love that convinced him to get a job just to look like a nice man and get along with her family. But he found out that the "real life" (the party of special things to do) is kinda disgusting because of the Mirror Man (ego), Elixir Sue (id maybe?), Red Queen (maybe someone hierarchically superior who used upset him just for fun). So, for me, this song it's about a grasshopper who tried to be an ant to impress a girl, but it get mad at how strange its life has become. But wtf is a camel wering a nightie? Lol
