My black mates here in the UK have told me that they grew up listening to predominantly black music while they are growing up. I’ve introduced them to a lot of stuff that they wouldn’t have been aware of, and their response was one of surprise and an appreciativeness of the vast majority. Give “Who by Numbers” a rip. If you liked this I think you will enjoy it. This track is on that album. Peace.

Where they pause it just before the 6 minute mark, they think the word drugs has been used but the actual lyrics are"And if i swallow something evil, Put you finger down my throat, And if i shiver please give me a blanket,Keep me warm let me wear your coat. They could be singing about taking drugs but it could also be about drinking alcohol, eating dodgy food or just a metaphor for taking many other things perhaps negative on board that you can get helped on and saved.

I just have to say, even though it has been awhile since this came out, that if anyone sees this... the line " if I swallow anything evil" does not mean taking too many drugs!!! It means if I fall for bullshit, and things people are trying to tell me that are not true...you will be there to "put your finger down my throat"...to help me reject it ..point me in the right direction...help me take the negativity from my life!! I have always thought that this was one of the most poetic, and emotional lyrics in the history of rock!!! JUST SAYIN'!!!

I suggest reading the lyrics first. Much of classic rock, like rap, tells a story of life, and helped many of us get out from under our parents and see the world as it is. The Wall by Pink Floyd for instance is a story about breaking out. Days Of Future Passed by The Moody Blues goes through a typical day, from waking up to toiling the day to resting into the evening with Nights In White Satin. The Who's Tommy, or Quadrophenia are rock operas. Pink Floyd's Animals, and Wish You Were Here are also concept albums you might enjoy. But follow the lyrics. Read Black Sabbath's song about weed, Sweet Leaf, then listen to it. It was written in 1971and most people didn't know what it was about. Stay cool, folks. And rock on. Oh, and you might like Bruce Springsteen - he writes songs about life's struggles growing up in the working class.

Nice. The Who doesn't get the recognition and love they deserve. Keith Moon was the prototypical wild man rock star. Nobody threw TV's out of the hotel windows like him, or even thought to do it until he did. Here is an unlikely reaction suggestion. On Romania's Got Talent there was a beautiful young lady named Lorelai Mosnegutu, with a serious disability, who sings like a bird. Brian shockledge your dreaming, cover band , yeah You must bought the koolaid on that bull crap. I love both bands , but all The Who’s music sounds the same, Moons drumming is the same on every song, nothing but fills over and over. Moon could never lay down a groove like Bonham. Townsend never played a guitar solo in his life, he’s a rhythm player. No comparison Zep all the way.
@brianshockledge3241
@brianshockledge3241 4 жыл бұрын
@@dickslinger7979 Sounds the same?? Tracks like The Goods Gone/ The Ox sounds nothing like I Can See For Miles/Relax which sounds nothing like Amazing Journey/Sparks. Which in turn sounds nothing like Baba O`Riley/ Wont Get Fooled Again or 5-15/ Love Reign O`er Me. Now if you want something that does sound the same rehash old blues pass it off as your own and dont look back. Townshend is a rhythm player but he happens to be a songwriter something lacking in Zep. Entwistle bass player extraordinaire and a song writer, Moon perfect for The Who and Daltrey a singer who was at the top of his game for more than 5yrs. Zep were average live more times than they were great whereas The Who were great more times than they were average add in originality and it`s no contest.
@dickslinger7979
@dickslinger7979 4 жыл бұрын
Brian shockledge songwriting lacking in Zep ? Stairway, Kashmir, Ramble On, The Rain Song, Achilles Last Stand, Ten Years Gone, you must be high. Zep took some phrases from old blues songs early in their career and reworked old blues songs, which sounded nothing like the originals. Do you honestly think The Who could ever rock like When The Levee Breaks , not a chance. Do you think Moon could ever keep a groove like Fool In The Rain and Townsend could never play a lead like Dazed and Confused . Entwistle is great ,but I will take the bass lines on Ramble On any day. Zeppelin plays blues , rock, funk, eastern style, folk, etc. The Who is one dimensional. Listen to the live version of No Quarter, the talent is overwhelming. Bonham and Page and Jones are phenomenal, The Who’s rhythm section could never have that interplay. Nothing but fills by Moon in every song, boring drummer ,repetitive, but he is perfect for The Who. Behind Zep, Beatles, Floyd, Stones and Skynyrd, The Who is. # 6 of all time.

@@dickslinger7979 I bet your act doesn`t go down well on the comedy circuit. Babe Im Gonna Leave You...Anne Brendon late 1950s, she took legal action in 1980 Black Mountain Side...Traditional Irish folk song called Blackwaterside, credited to Page. He split and slightly changed the title so it`s obviously his?? Dazed and Confused...see Jake Holmes 1967 How Many Years...credited to all the band actually a Howlin` Wolf song. How Many More Times...ripped from Albert King`s The Hunter 1967. Communication Breakdown....Eddie Cochran Nervous Breakdown 1957, different lyrics granted but progression after riffs and vocals identical. The title also a giveaway. Whole Lotta Love...Willie Dixon You Need Love 1962, music original but lyrics clearly ripped. Dixon took legal action in 1985. The Lemon Song....Probably heard Howling Wolf`s Killing Foor which these riffs and lyrics were taken from 1967 although the lyrics could go as far back as 1937 Robert Johnson. Gallows Pole...Traditional folk song possibly heard Fred Geruach`s version in 1962. Bron-Y-Aur....Bert Jansch The Waggoner`s Lad 1966. Moby Dick..credited to the band but riffs lifted staight from Bobby Parker`s Watch Your Step 1961. Bring It On Home...Willie Dixon song credited to the band till Dixon took legal action in the 1970s. Since I`ve Been Loving You....Moby Grape Never 1967 lyrics ripped from the first verse and music strangely similiar in parts. Hats Off To Roy Harper....Bukka White Shake `Em On Down 1937 just another uncredited cover. Stairway To Heaven....Taurus Spirit 1968 Custard Pie...Drop Down Mama by Sleepy John Estes 1935 lyrics clearly taken. In My Time Of Dying...Jesus Make Up My Dying Bed 1927 granted it sounds more like Bob Dylan`s cover in 1962. It`s Nobody`s Fault But Mine...Blind Willie Johnson 1927, the band kindly dropped "It`s" from the title. We`re Gonna Groove...Ben E King`s Groovin` 1960. You've got the album cover picture there. Notice that the group just finished urinating on a cement column and has turned away to zip their pants. Interesting.

This whole Album and this song is from the 70s. I was there...Lol Not anything to do with drugs whatsoever. It's a metaphore about doing Bad things. Remember, he's the bad guy.
