Agreed. I know from reading about this period of his life that he was anything but happy about being in the Who. Some say he mailed it in on this tour, which seems to be an accurate assessment for much of what I've seen on KZbin from the different shows. The shows were professional for sure, but they seemed to lack energy and enthusiasm. Not exactly sure what happened before the Toronto shows, but they were pretty much in high gear each show. Maybe because they were the last two shows of the tour. In particular the second show that could be watched via simulcast world wide, or at least in North America. I was in high school at the time, in St Catharines, an hour and change south of Toronto. My friends scored tickets to the final show and offered one to me. I didn't go and have regretted it ever since. Anyway, to your point, Townshend's playing on this tour was the best I've seen in his career. I think due to a combination of being (recently) clean/sober or, at least, on his way there, and having around 20 years of playing experience by this time, but still being young enough to play hard enough to satisfy the adrenaline junkie side of Who fans and rock n roll fans in general. It's interesting seeing him to this day playing live. Certainly a different look in his late 70's than back in 1982.

@dockaiser He is a great technician,he just doesn't play in the same predictable manner as other guitar gods. He'll be zipping along in a panatonic and then a melody hits him and he smashes into a major melodic. Were not used to hearing this type of creativity. You compound the fact that he wrote all this, he sings, plays boards, and the physicality of the exercise that is a Who concert, and yes he is god. I seen it I was there.

- he was a great drummer - no doubt. Whether he was right for The Who particularly after Moon who knows. I thought he was brilliant but others think he lacked flair. Who fan since 1975 and thought this was one of the best concerts The Who ever played with or without Moon.
@seanparker7415
@seanparker7415 4 жыл бұрын
If you listen to the whole concert you get pretty tired of the constant rolls from rack to floor toms in place of the variety of fills that Moon did. I'd prefer just a straight beat than those endless rolls down the toms. , I have seen Jones play other concerts where he really mixes it up and gets pretty creative but I think the playing in this concert just shows that he was getting bored. You should also see the baba o'riley clip from this same concert - Townshend looks like he'd rather be somewhere else.

@thankyoupourlavideo You're absolutely right. The version of 'Drowned' from the '75 Summit Bootleg is on here as well and watching it alongside this shows there's nothing to talk about. Kenny Jones was a decent drummer but he didn't push the band the way Moonie did. Roger was absolutely right when he said Jones wasn't right for the Who. After playing with Moonie it's a wonder they didn't fall asleep in front of Jones.

he mix is for the music, not one instrument. You're probably not a musician. No offense intended. One of the things that identify a great player, be it guitar, bass, obo, whatever is, when listening to a song, they play for the song. They may play a great lick, you won't even catch it because it compliments. "Play that back, what was that?".. The mix is just fine. Doubt me? Here ya go.. the guitar track is just "overwhelming" kzbin.info/www/bejne/iaTEd3WEq82Wm6M
