I crack up because i used to play this concert in the burger King break room every day. Everyone eventually got into t, and asked for it. Hell i was 14, 15 at the time. The freaking place did allow me to meet the woman i will wish i could be with. But this version of the song is one of Pete best imprvisional solos, He was on it in 1982/83 with Gilmour, VanHallen, all the other fingers making impacts. But Pete played with emotion this night. A+

Saw them on this tour and was overjoyed when they did this song - one of my favorite Who songs. And they did the whole thing, lots of versions I've seen and heard leave out the 3rd verse which is a shame because those are powerful lyrics. While Pete's solo was great, the Ox was on fire as well - he was so great for so long that I think we took him for granted

@AmaterasuHeika
@AmaterasuHeika 4 жыл бұрын
His 1979 shows were incredible. He played with fire and was faithful in many ways to Keith’s sonic space within songs. But even then his simple time keeping instincts created sonic gaps. Compare 1979-82 Jones Baba O’Riley with any decent Moon era performance and the difference immediate. When Roger asked Kenney Jones to leave as not meshing with Who catalog, Jones stopped really caring and his drumming became what it is here: workmanlike.
@markvaught672
@markvaught672 4 жыл бұрын
Guntag, plasticweapon, and Amaterasuheika your three opinions are all well and fine, but Roger himself had expressed not liking his much simpler style compared to Keith's manic drummer with four arms approach. So 'nuff said. Lol I'm 52 and never got to see the 'horrible 'ho, but did get to see Kenny with them at the Los Angeles Colosseum in 1982. Kicked ass. In 1989 saw them twice in one week with Simon Phillips on the kit kicking ass as per usual for him. In 2007 with Zak Starkey, Ringo Starr's very capable son bashing away at the skins. 2013, again with Starkey. And finally in 2019, last year, Starkey. As much as I love The Who that was it for me. Long Live Rock. But the original conversation seemed to be Moon vs. Jones. Sorry, but Moon all day and 100 drunken pill popping days of summer and still Moon. Why? Kenny Jones is great, competent. A historic mod from back in the day with The Faces. But booooorrrrrring. Moon? Possibly the best rock drummer ever. No fucking comparison. Moon the loon for lifetime acheivement award-best drummer on multiple substances holding back from pissing on stage when they yank him off at the end of the night on occasions too numerous to count. Lol
@BassPlayerSusan
@BassPlayerSusan 4 жыл бұрын
@@markvaught672 In his autobiography, Daltrey says that Jones was not a good fit for The Who. He said that Jones did great with the material on "Face Dances" and "It's Hard" but had difficulty with songs on which Moon had drummed.

Pete had a problem with Keith too! Why do you think Keith was so insecure? Why was he so wild? To make himself larger than life...but nothing impresses Pete. Interestingly he was happy with Zak behind him...because he reminded him of Keith and he was a more professional Keith.

One night at the Forum in Los Angeles...this is back in the mid 70s...Moonie cut himself really badly on a cymbal and could not continue...taken to the hospital...so Pete asked if there was a drummer in the huge crowd, but he said you have to be really good...well, some guy actually stepped up and played with them...what a thrill, and he *was* really good...great show...

Townsend's solo is golden as well as his other gripping strands. But honestly this rendition has an almost sleepy feel behind it. I mean, yeah Roger is still belting it out but there's a feeling of restraint/tiredness compared to say The Young Vic or Isle shows. One can get it of a band aging and while still slinging it somewhat sinks into that "Vegas" rote. Still, a too often unrecognized song from their catalog that's always good to hear in any regard!

call me crazy ,,, never took any dope ( - oh no , thats wrong , once some 30 years ago , must have been in my mid forties , i had a most wonderful acidic spring afternoon here in the oldest Amsterdam park , then went on to make some of my very best 'glorious' spaghetti Bolognese , one of the almost too many of my wonderful days of my life with my friends , good wine and all ... !!! ... ) - but this performance by this 'band' is just - one of the plenty ! - as good as it gets ,,,, and that must be why they're the greatest rock-band ever to 'thunder' down on us . .. again and again and again ..... thank you so much , guys ! - and thank you for the upload !!!
