What book?? Like my old boss would talk about something and say " that's not right, in my book" . I finally asked him one day, where is this book? How come we have never seen this book?? I told him I don't think he even had a book, that he was making it all up. To this day he has yet to produce this book of his that he claims is full of things that "are or are not right".

I love that The Who had two excellent but very different vocal stylings available to them. Townsend was such an animal, with most of the writing, his powerful guitar, and vocals that work so well against the standard of Daltrey. Hopefully you will venture into some of Townsend’s solo albums.

After Keith Moon died The Who brought on drummer Kenney Jones. Jones 'uncredited'' drums on Rod Stewart's '(I Know) I'm Losing You' is legendary. He was a great drummer....he just wasn't A Who drummer. Pete Townsend started putting out some great solo albums,' i. the 80's and 90's, and one of them is called White City (A Novel). The song Give Blood features one of the great drum tracks by the incredible Simon Phillips. As far as a drum performance on an individual song goes Simon's ranks right up there with Peart's on Tom Sawyer, or Steve Gadd on Aja....IMHO. One of a kind performance.
@MarkJones-mn6uy11 ай бұрын
This song definitely had the same sound and feeling as the music on White City, which I recommend. It was both an album and a short film, which I had on Beta video tape. I believe this song was included in the video. Great sound, crisp production. Pete Townsend is a genius with a great voice. Great work, guys, and keep enjoying your musical exploration.
@MidwesternCornbilly11 ай бұрын
There is a performance of Pete's album Psychoderelict (Live in Brooklyn) that features Simon playing Eminence Front in a set of older tunes Pete plays before he performs the album Psychoderelict (actors and dialogue included) in its entirety. Another one of Pete's concept albums that is presented as a 'radio play'. I love the music on this album but I vet that a lot of people can't get past all the dialogue.

One of their very best post Keith Moon songs, it was especially good live and the MTV video of them doing it at a sound check is special, Pete lets loose on some shimmering leads, great stuff. Also on the tours they did with Kenney Jones on drums, showed Pete really take over at times. Try My Wife live 1979 in Chicago, he and Entwhistle Roar through that banger. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶

The Who formed in 1964 with their first hits “I Can’t Explain” and “My Generation” released in 1965, getting lots of airplay and TV coverage. “Eminence Front” was their last hit. In those 17 years they heavily shaped rock music. Pete with his power chords and experimentation with synthesizers. Keith with his “lead” drumming, and John Eintwhistle’s bass. His harmonics were incredible! They invented “power rock” and evolved greatly over the years, with Pete exploring and innovating. They heavily influenced rock, power pop, punk and grunge. I grew up hearing them innovate and evolve. Perhaps my favorite band ever.

Never got to see The WHO, until this album was released in 1982, and it was an amazing event. This song was a big hit at the show, but "Sister Disco" got the biggest crowd reaction of the night. four Aircraft search lights in each corner of the arena lit up everything during the song, and everyone got in on the feeling."Eminence Front" is mostly Pete on the lead vocals and Roger is mostly strumming his rhythm guitar, and of course Bassist John Entwistle is crushing it. Saw The WHO twenty years later, just after Entwistle passed in a Las Vegas hotel room, like a rock star should.

The Who has many great songs and helped pave the way for high production rock songs, but my favorites continue to be the early 70's live performances. At a perfect time of musical growth and youthful energy they played with a raw power that no other band at the time could match. Live at Leeds is one of the best live albums ever with one high powered banger after another. But it's not complete unless you can see them live. Check out Young Man Blues from Isle of Wight.

Those keys are emulating the sound you hear when you inject cocaine. The Ringer. And it sounds scarily accurate (pretty sure Mr. Pete Townshend would know). My partying days are long behind me but when I went, I went hard. A fan of the addict motto, “if yer gonna do it, might as well DO it, dude.” These days, I’m just grateful to be alive. Anyhow, I was thinking about the lyrics of this song (cocaine party people and excesses in Miami, where Pete was living at the time) while watching a reactor a couple years ago. Bopping my head along, it suddenly hit me. That’s an effin’ ringer. Can’t believe I had never realized it before, it’s so obvious if you are familiar with the sound. It’s actually genius, the way it ebbs and peaks throughout the song. Dead accurate. Mr. Townshend *definitely* knows. Maybe not about the needles, maybe cocaine used to be that good back in the day and you could get it from just sniffing? Doesn’t seem plausible, imho.
