I went to this last night and whilst this wasn't the best track played, my God if i could have that energy and enthusiasm when I'm in my late 70s I'll take it. Pete is still a master craftsman on guitar and a great raconteur. The set was nicely curated, full of humour and humanity. Roger's vocals are not what they were but he is descending from a high ceiling of his own excellence and once warmed up hit notes that most singers of his age wouldn't even attempt. I felt priveledged to see them enjoying themselves doing what they love doing and being so engaged, appreciative and supportive of some of the fine younger musicians accompanying them, including Kate Jacoby on violin, who was amazingly good!

Pete's been saying for years that he doesn't like playing live/touring anymore, he's only in it for the money. I'm pretty sure he's not joking. Though I find it a bit sad hearing him say those things I totally appreciate his honesty. Roger still loves doing it.

Exercise and clean living have kept Roger in top form for a geezer. McCartney, however, sounds 2 octaves down from just the early 90s. I guess smoking pot for breakfast, lunch, and dinner didn't help.🤷‍♂️

Ian, Saw them in Seattle in October (Wife surprised me with tickets). Wife isn't by any means a Who fan, but when she walked out of that arena, she was... She loved the whole show. You see people way younger than Roger who can' sing for their lives anymore. Then this guy walks on and holy hell. He sounds as good as ever. The band was tight, even with an Orchestra behind them. It was by far the best concert of my life!

They are singing “Hope I Die Before I get old”, and they are in their late 70s. So when do you get old? Must be when you are in your eighties or nineties. 😀
@donyoung7874
@donyoung7874 Жыл бұрын
I love the yellow light on Daltrey's white hair! He almost looks like he did when he first sang it. That's the get around for having to sing, "Hope I die before I get old" now at an advanced age. I know thinking and perceptions change over time but I think it would be weird to sing that line to an audience when you're in your 70's. If you believe what it is you're singing, and isn't that what the best singers do? They make the audience believe them? I was a huge Who fan in the 70's as a teen and that's why - I believed them and their lyrics. I expect someone will correct me and say that the old they're referring to is "an old frame of mind." That line has been questioned in interviews for decades. But this is just my opinion and observation about this song in particular at this time. Give me a minute to buy a helmet before the rock throwing begins please.

They played two of the best gigs I have seen by any band in my life. BOTH in Hull. And I confess that they were not even my favorite band. 1970 when they did a full set of Tommy, and again in 71 at the ABC, the gig that never happened??? The (doctored) live recording from 1970 at City Hall is available and imo contains Keith Moon's best recorded live drum set. And the extended My Generation has to be heard. The ABC gig was possibly the loudest I ever heard. Even louder than Deep Purple at City Hall.

Um...it's not the Who. It's Pete Townsend and Roger Daltrey playing their really old songs. The Who was Roger Daltrey, Pete Townsend, Roger Entwistle and Keith Moon. Those four made all that great music over fifty years ago! You can't just remove two of the most consequential rock musicians in history (Moon and Entwistle) from the equation and have the same results! Hey Townsend and Daltrey... just go quietly enjoy your retirements and quit sullying the Who's reputation!
