Imagine an album by The Who released in 1972 with the following songs: 1. Join Together 2. Relay 3. Long Live Rock 4. Put the Money Down 5. Pure and Easy 6. Let's See Action 7. When I Was a Boy 8. Too Much of Anything 9. Water 10. Naked Eye I don't care about their importance to the Lifehouse storyline. The project was abandonded whatsoever, so why not release them as just a bunch of unrelated songs? Not every album has to have a concept... It would still be a hell of a record...

The who were and are the single greatest manefestation of the male ego in the form of rock and roll. Passion, tragedy, irony, humour and frustration. All was present.

The Who was always ahead of their time. There light show in the 70s, before the specialized electronics, was state of art. I saw them in Detroit 1975 and I will never forget that concert: 76,000 plus strong.

My brother and I used to joke that they invented electricity as well! Thats how much we both dug them around early 70"s. Living in "who" starved Australia back then. They or I should say pete vowed never to return to oz after their 67 tour out here and airplay suffered as a result. Anyway we saw them in 2004 in Sydney and thought it was awesome though we were far back in the rows. Saw them again last year (reluctantly) and boy what a fuckin surprise. They were far better than 2004. UNTOUCHABLE!

The Who is one of those bands you just wish you could have been a part of. In my opinion Daltrey is tied for being the best frontman of any rock band (his only competition, in my mind, being Bon Scott). Daltrey was so cool he's one of those guys who you envy and wish you could be, oh the songs awsome too. Long Live Rock!

Townshend and the who were/ are surely gods. Fancy writing about what we all know today as the world wide web back in the early 70's. Listen to the lyric folks

Not actually a "synth" what you hear on this song. It is a guitar playing through a random sequence generator, also known as sequence-wah. Same effect Zappa uses on "Ship Ahoy" Townsend used an ARP Avatar guitar synth on the solo on "Going Mobile" from this era.

Some songs were left off Who's Next because of their importance to the Lifehouse storyline, hence why Join Together and Pure and Easy didn't make it. Relay was probably left off for the same reason.

I love this tune. I last saw the Who in Jan 2008 in Reno and they really played well. I also saw them in 1982 and 1989. I missed Keith Moon but the Who played like Champions. Renoruona

I don't think this song was released on an major LP, but it was released as a single. But, you can find on the song on 'The Who's Greatest Hits'-1983. It's on there if you want to hear it...

@wolfsblood07 It was a non-cd single, originally from the aborted "Lifehouse" projected, and never on an official album. It's on the 30 years of Maximum R & B boxset, and it's been on a couple of compilations. One of their more difficult songs to get on cd, for some reason.

Have to disagree! This is one of their personal favorite songs to play live - sadly they don't play it enough. I have heard that they're now playing it again on the tour. Wish they had in Columbus (OH), because it's one of my favorites. Long live . . . Pete and Rog and the rest of the Who family!!

@SufjanStevens420 ...ditto to that...thanks for posting!...but I wonder how much help they had from off stage...is this synched from a studio version?...I dont see PT using a wah-wah pedal at all, and I'm hearing stuff in the recording that is not coming from him or JE...do you have any insights on this? WHO forever!

@hamfisto Don't get the 30 Years set for that song. They mixed the tracks so that the fade-out from the previous song can be heard when you jump to this track. I think it's sad that this song is so hard to find on CD. I ended up shelling out over $100 to get this song and maybe 7 others off of an out-of-print "Rarities" CD. And the sound quality's not that good.

Its a pre recorded live thing in the studio, unique for the show, (the old grey whistle test, I think), and then they mime it on the show except for the vocals... why Im not sure...

Russell Harty Show. Not Whistle Test. They are miming apart from Roger. Pete’s amp falls over at the end before being interviewed.

Maybe because it was mimed? But that's what UK TV did in the 70s. Rarely did anyone play live. Moon hated it and took the piss out of it.
