The problem with radio these days is neither the station owners nor the on air people playing the music know what good music is. They will repeatedly play crap but good music like this they will not play. There is so much great music that never gets played on the radio.

I have always loved this song, it's at a time when The Who were doing stuff for a older generation. Pete's solo albums in this time period showed him at his songwriting peak. Solo albums that had no filler but unfortunately at the time very underrated and missed by many radio stations & MTV. White City & Empty Glass are two absolute must have albums by Pete Townshend. *nikoletta* I see that your post is three years old. How are you faring now? I lost my mother to cancer about 18 months ago, and now i am caring for my soul-sick father. Losing his wife of 50+ years changed him. I never realized it while she was still here, that it was their friction relationship that motivated my father to do things. He would get angry at her nagging him, then he would go get something done. Now with her gone, he just doesn't do anything anymore. We have a Jeep sitting in the garage with the block cap removed, & the cylinders & pistons exposed. It is just as it was when my mother's health left. We have a ceiling fan in a bathroom hanging by wires, because it burnt out, & my father removed it, but he has yet to finish replacing it. He is not who he was. She was the closest person i had on earth. I know that i am still in the grief process -and i think i will always be. The fact that i miss her is not going away. There is no "get over it". Moving on is one thing, but getting over it is a ridiculous expectation. I find that talking to her helps. Especially when i am in the kitchen. I do a lot of the cooking for my family, and being there helps me reconnect with my mother, and the many hours we spent there together since my childhood. And i try to remember all the things she taught me. And so many times i want to ask her a question again, but she always answers back that she already taught me this, and that i have to trust myself that i know what to do. And i hope my gushing made some grain of sense.

Kenny is ridiculous underrated. The only drummers who I have really connected with are Kenny Jones and Keith Moon. I remember thinking Moon’s drumming on Quadrophenia sounded like beautiful war drums, like the sound of a marching army. Kenny’s drumming on Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake (especially Happiness Stan) was the first time I was ever truly blown away by a drummer. He just had such finesse and power on that album. I wish he could’ve repeated that with The Who. He is the only drummer I could be satisfied with replacing Moon.

That is one funny thing about the Who, i have noticed. They do not seem to be an easy band to "cover", because their sound was so much more than the sum of its parts. It was not what they did, it was the way they did it. It was not what was composed, but rather the personality spiritual force behind the composition.

To me, this album "FACE DANCES" is an underrated gem of The Who's catalog. I like the tighter drumming of Kenny Jones and the focus on melody in the songs. As an 11-year-old lad this record (and I mean vinyl record) was my first real introduction to The Who. I had heard The Who in the 70s of course, "WHO ARE YOU" had been 3 years by then and I heard alot of their other, older tunes on radio. But this album really grabbed me and combined with the videos on MTV I was sold. Heck, I really dig "IT'S HARD" as well.

One of my favorites, so cool, soft rock. I listened to this in my teen years decades ago when it came out, and considered it a very spiritual song, the coat being the Cloak of St. Martin. I just went to church during holidays, but felt I had this song always as a spiritual uplift and just loved listening to it since it being soft rock & roll. I understood the song as do not lose hope, "don't let go," the coat--Cloak of St. Martin is there to protect one. It probably was not written to mean that, but whatever, subject to interpretation. Difficult to explain. Lovely song and melody, tropical happiness.

Driving around with my brother, listening to this new Who tune, he says to me: "What's this song about ?" I said, "Mom". "Right", he says. I don't know why I remember that moment in time so well. I miss my brother....and my mother!

I can remember riding my Honda 750 through the streets of Elmhurst Illinois the day I bought this album, and I thought what could be better than this.

The Who at their poppiest ... this was one of my favorite songs of the summer of '81. At the time, some critic remarked it was like Paul McCartney & Wings LOL.

Not one of their epics, but I really like it. Cheers me up when I'm feeling low.

Not trying to be epic. Just making an impact in the eighties. A classic song for that era.
