2000 was in the sweet spot - Entwistle was still alive, Zak was in the band, and Townshend was able to play electric again. The last version of The Who that was really fun.

Can't agree more. This is a great concert. Roger sounds awesome, and Pete is right on his A game (crisp guitar but dont like his Fender Stat sound). JOHN still the beast, and Zak is great too. After John departed, they lost the magical Who sound after this - just dont care so much for Ox's replacement Pino P never even tried to learn John's parts, but just stays in key and keeps the tempo...zzz
@iainholmes27354 жыл бұрын
@@harrykadaras9459 Yes, you can hear the strat twang (longer scale length). It looks a nice guitar. They do sound different from his SGs and Les Pauls. I think the extra knob is to blend in an acoustic sound.
@simoneric81833 жыл бұрын
@@iainholmes2735 Amazing : no more than 1 minute ago I just placed a comment about that. But I'm not convinced your interpretation is right because no extra piezzo or any sort of extra pickup can be seen on the body of the guitar... Anyway I must say I'm a huge fan of Pete's erratic wanderings on electrics, whatever the sound of the guitars ! (Always listen at hi volume of course)-
@mcdaniels61883 жыл бұрын
Agree'd. I saw them last night at the Garden. As I watched the intensity of their playing it dawned on me this could be the last night they were to play together, as if they'd decided to break up. I'd seen them several times before (always sans Moon) and this night was the best hands down.

Man, how much do I love this band....first they lose Keith in 78, and then in 2002 John, and the more I watch and listen to them the more I admire and respect their strength and survival. It's very sad to lose Keith and John but Roger and Pete have too much music and talent to stop what they're doing. Keep rocking fellas. Thank you for posting.

It just sucks (imo) that Pete won't be fully appreciated as the Musical Genius he is until he passes away. There is a DVD entitled Who's Next. It's "the making of" type of video. It shows Pete endlessly getting the intro sounds to Baba O'Riley. Way before Digital. It took him forever to loop the sounds together. I found a copy at my local library.

I got to meet and shake hands with John Entwhistle in 1999 in Clayton, MO where he was selling his artwork and he gave me this ultra weak handshake. He looked as he did here but half dead. I got this feeling sadly that he didn't have long for this Earth. John looked sickly here too 2 years before his death and notice he was playing old style normal bass with his thumb and forefinger not the 5 -finger thunderfingers style. Wow. My all time favorite band, The Who!!!

Not the best Who set list by a long shot, even though it's a damn good performance. Take a look at the set lists from the 1979 tour, especially the 12/8/79 show in Chicago or the 9/79 shows at Madison Square Garden in NYC for a comparison. This set list, with a couple of exceptions like "I Don't Even Know Myself" and "Let's See Action", is too much like a nostalgia act reliving some of its highlights. That's fine in itself depending on what you are looking for, but don't pretend that it's an exceptional set list because it isn't.
