Amazingly enough, I got my Tommy half-speeder from Target online. I had a gift card which I used for one thing, then had enough value left on it for Tommy, so.... I'm so glad I herd about this when it first came out and that Target actually had it in stock. It arrived Tuesday and I listened to it over the weekend. This mastering is the best I've ever heard from this record. 👍👍👍👍

Great video. Tommy has always been a favourite of mine. Bought mine back in the seventies as a teenager. The image of Pete Townshend's windmill during pinball Wizard on British TV in 69 had a lasting effect on a 10 year old. Other versions of Tommy to consider recorded live Woodstock/Leeds/Isle of Wight. Amongst others. Plus Roger daltrey's orchestral version and there's another all-star/who version on DVD. You really cannot have enough. Thr raw power of the who live was something to behold. Thanks again

It’s too bad it’s dark right now, because I’d send you a picture of the Twin Peaks as seen from our kitchen window.

6:52 - THat's my one "bugaboo" with this packaging - the artwork where you have to drag the first record out on the right, and the second record is tucked away inside. I also tried to substitute those inner sleeves that look like MOFI sleeves with the black arrows pointint to the opening, but they won't fit in the covers. On the upside, it is the best-sounding pressing of Tommy I've ever heard.

yeah, I didn’t even try to insert the other disc back in (because I did substitute for a mofi sleeve. Since I have the entire record in a clear cover I just put that disc behind the cover

@@TJRtheOriginal I have some clear covers, I just hope one of them fits because Tommy is kind of thick.

How fun to hear you mention Porto’s! (I live in the Valley as well.) Living in close proximity to Atomic is a blessing and a curse. lol! Thanks for the review, I may give it a shot.

I have an original copy of Tommy (West Germany Polydor pressing) and it's also a trifold cover and the two records are in right side of the cover. Nothing on the left. So they recreated the original cover art👍

I think some of the half speed mastering is like 180g vinyl: a gimmick. In my experience, I didn’t notice much difference between them and standard pressings, but if I could instantly do A & B comparisons between different versions in real time, I’d probably tell a difference. The ones I have are a 2008 pressing of Metallica’s Justice album, various Beatles 50th anniversary vinyl, as well as a MFSL pressing of the Beatles AHDN from the eighties. I couldn’t really tell much difference compared to other copies. For me,DMM is one type of pressing that I do think is superior, as far as clarity. That’s one “gimmick” that has its merits. As for Tommy? The songs are great, but can take or leave the story.

For all the money we spend on vinyls and the record companies still just package the vinyl in paper sleeves instead of antistatic archive sleeves

Yeah. I agree. They don’t all do it, but they do it often enough to irk me.

Tommy always sounded very good. But the story line is just too weird. Give me Quadrophenia anytime
@TJRtheOriginal Жыл бұрын
LOL. I like em both!
@farrellmcnulty909 Жыл бұрын
@@TJRtheOriginal I think both are equally as good as the other, and the two films are equal in quality - it all depends on one's mood - if you just want to kick back and enjoy some lunacy, the Tommy movie should do the job. If you're into something heavier, or feel like something heavier, Quadrophenia is excellent. It's not what I expected at all, from a record that's turned into a film. Quadrophenia is set in a very dismal time and place, where the average kid is thinking "how do I get past this?". It reflects the bleak atmosphere and outlook of kids in that time period, and it makes me think I was there. I really wasn't, but I felt as if I'd gone through that with them. It was really affecting after I switched off the DVD. Now this is pretty high praise when I consider that I hated Quadrophenia when I first heard it and saw the film. "Aaaw, this is depressing, it's not funny like Tommy is - waah!" 😅
