One of the things I like about Roger, is how much he genuinely loves the Who. It's very obvious that the Who is his favorite band, that Pete is his favorite guitarist and songwriter, and that Keith and John are his favorite drummer and bass player. Not all rock stars have this level of affection for their band.

I would agree. Roger loves The Who, but he’s not ultra competitive either in a toxic way. He also loves Led Zeppelin, and has never been shy about how great he thinks they were. Roger is similar to guys like Paul McCartney and Jimmy Page in that regard. He loves to celebrate achievement and success, both of his group and his contemporaries. He’s an ambassador for Rock music

Same as both of you. Went to see Paul McCartney's Rockshow in '80 and TKAA was second billed on a double feature. I had been aware of The Who but had not experienced them, so to speak. The film was all it took. Been my fave band and all that goes with ever since. Townshend is a unique talent.

We’ve seen The Who three times on tour. First saw them on their tour supporting the album,”It’s Hard,” in Dallas at the Cotton Bowl in December 1982, then in November 2006 in Dallas at the American Airlines Center and finally, the “Quadrophenia and More Tour on February 2013(Valentines Day of all days)at the BOK Center in Tulsa. The last one was the best, they were absolutely astonishing! Roger Daltrey hit EVERY note, high or low that night! I told myself that would be the last time I would see them because I felt it just couldn’t get any better. I was with my two best friends, they played everything we loved flawlessly and it was just such a memorable night. I don’t want to “tarnish” that night in any way, especially at the end of their career. Just seeing these two in this interview gave me a flood of great memories.-Chris🎧

Well done! This was a very joyous interview. This sets the stage for a very promising and fulfilling tour! Thoroughly enjoyed 2 'Who' concerts - Toronto's Maple Leaf Gardens, May 1980, Toronto's CNE Stadium, July 1980. However, my fondest memory is listening to the radio broadcast of the Who's 'final' concert from Toronto, Dec. 1982, while studying for a macroeconomics exam. I enjoyed the broadcast so much, I aced the exam! After 39 years, I think I'm ready and due for .... Toronto, June 1st, 2019!

@waterfordrs22
@waterfordrs22 5 жыл бұрын
Mark, Ringo as a drummer was sufficient. He obviously had a certain chemistry and bond with the band that was key- but most musical drummer in rock? Scores of more interesting, more musical drummers. For a laugh, check out Quincy Jones’ account of recording Ringo- he sent him Out for a pint and a shepherds pie and cut the track with another album while Ringo was gone. Quincy’s account is a little over the top but humorous. John Lennon was once asked if Ringo was the best drummer in the world. His response was that he wasn’t even the best drummer in the Beetles. At the end of the day, their music drill endures and it’s hard not to like Ringo. That said, Ginger Baker, John Densmore, Stewart Copeland, Levon Helm, Richie Hayward, Jim keltner, how bout Wally Ingram..... so many drummers who are more musical, more dynamic.

I know deep down that Roger and Pete love each other as life long friends and all, but it really seems from their body language that they just can’t stand each other, mainly Pete. I could be wrong, but that’s the feeling that comes across to me.

Yeah townshend knows he's intellectually on a higher level than daltrey and that he has to make some allowances to find some common ground. He likes to throw around the word 'art school' in a lot of his interviews simply to distance himself from roger. I too sense roger flinching sometimes as if he's been on the end of a few smacks by pete in the past.

Wish they were slightly less modest, and said at least something about the vast charity foundations which they support. E.G. transforming cancer treatment in The U.K. with Teenage Cancer Trust (building state-of-the-art new,wings to every major hospital there, for teenagers, from tens of millions in donations raised through their concerts, along with allied artists).

Pete Townshend has written more pieces of genius that people dont know than most of his contemporaries have written actual tracks. People talk about Prince and his bunker of unheard tunes. Townshend is similar. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGfSfnqebdp6m5I

"You've spoken in the pahst about an evening out with Keith Moon. People have actually died on such nights. Young people today likely don't know, and won't believe, the stories. Could you elaborate on what nights out in the 60's and 70's, when people died, were actually really like? It would be a wonderful education for today's young people."

I wish Roger and Pete would get a new Bassist and Drummer. People that were very hungry, that really pushed them, made them compeat, and inspired them. (I also wish Pete would put down the Strat and pick up an SG with P-90's, or try a Reverend Jetstream 390) That strat is just to thin of a sound, especially for The Who.
