If you go back and listen again Keith Moon doesn't repeat a fill on his drums during this song, he will get close but will slow it down at the end of the fill. But go back and listen each fill is something different as a drummer I love it. And he has a pretty sparse kit compared to Peart and others...
@reactioninaction74153 жыл бұрын
Michael - thanks for the info. I can tell your a drummer. We haven't heard the term fill before but I get what your saying. That is something a trained ear would catch and now I will know to listen to that and on other tracks from great drummers! Layers man...a lot of layers to these super talented musicians!

@@reactioninaction7415 one thing Ringo Starr said he prided himself on was not repeating the same fill twice in a song. It might sound close, but there was always a subtle variant to his films. Neil Peart was alot in the same vain, when you get enough listens of one song you can pick up the difference in fill patterns and timing. As a drummer some of my favorite parts I've written start with very basic beats and by mid song it has built to a more complex beat more complicated drum fills or more tom hits. I would build it to a semi crescendo then slowly pull back to end out the song, but not two songs are ever alike as you two know... enjoy watching a father and son get into music is heart warming for me. I have played music my whole life, started guitar at a super young age. So if you have any questions feel free to ask. I certainly don't know everything, but I do know alot of other musicians who I rock out with and some well known artists who I don't, but have no problem bending an ear if I don't have an answer for you.

@@reactioninaction7415 what was really cool about John Densmore (Drummer for the Doors) he was almost that Ringo kind of drummer. Also they didn't have a Bass player alot of times so he and Manzarek who played the bass on his orgon found that groove that most bass players and drummers have called the Rythm section live. They did bring in bass players in the studio but live there was non. He also came from a jazz background and still loves jazz. So he was another drummer alot of people don't put into their all time greats, but the man had chops...subtle but great. Sometimes you don't have to be a giant like Neil Peart or Bonham etc...to Be A Giant. 😀

@@reactioninaction7415 Pedals are a hard thing to get into to. Most guitarists have many, many pedals. You have seen Alex and his setup with a box holding dozens of pedals and alot of times hes going through other sound channels and (computer) a multiple of pedals at the same time. I finally sold most of my pedals about 6 and bought 1 pedal with 200 plus sounds and it also gives me the ability to make my own sounds and has a built in Wah pedal. If you haven't gone to the guitar store yet, have them hook up a Wah pedal or a Bigfoot pedal and have fun with that, Jimmy Hendrix used the Wah alot. Voodoo Chile the very first notes are his guitar and a wah pedal. I hope that helped a bit.

Moon played a four- and later a five-piece drum kit during his early career. During much of 1964 and 1965 his setups consisted of Ludwig drums and Zildjian cymbals. He began to endorse Premier Drums in late 1965, and remained a loyal customer of the company.[54] His first Premier kit was in red sparkle and featured two high toms. In 1966 Moon moved to an even larger kit,[55] but without the customary hi-hat-at the time he preferred keeping ride rhythms with ride and crash cymbals. His new larger configuration was notable for the presence of two bass drums; he, along with Ginger Baker, has been credited as one of the early pioneers of double bass drumming in rock.[56] This kit was not used at the Who's performance at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival.[57] From 1967 to 1969 Moon used the "Pictures of Lily" drum kit (named for its artwork), which had two 22-inch (56 cm) bass drums, two 16-inch (41 cm) floor toms and three mounted toms.[53] In recognition of his loyalty to the company, Premier reissued the kit in 2006 as the "Spirit of Lily".[54] By 1970 Moon had begun to use timbales, gongs and timpani, and these were included in his setup for the rest of his career.[53] In 1973 Premier's marketing manager, Eddie Haynes, began consulting Moon about specific requirements.[57] At one point, Moon asked Premier to make a white kit with gold-plated fittings. When Haynes said that it would be prohibitively expensive, Moon replied: "Dear boy, do exactly as you feel it should be, but that's the way I want it." The kit was eventually fitted with copper fittings[57] and later given to a young Zak Starkey, son of Ringo Starr, need I say Beatles?

Keith Moon made a very drunk appearance onstage at the end of a Zeppelin concert at the LA Forum ……it’s on KZbin. The Moog synthesizer, developed by Robert Moog and first sold in 1964, is credited for pioneering analog synthesis concepts such as voltage-controlled oscillators, envelopes, noise generators, filters, and sequencers. In 1970, the smaller, cheaper Minimoog standardized synthesizers as self-contained instruments with built-in keyboards, compared to the modular synthesizers before it. The first mass-produced synthesizer, the Yamaha DX7, was launched in 1983, popularizing digital synthesis. Software synthesizers now can be embedded on single microchips in any electronic device. Synthesizers were initially viewed as avant-garde, valued by the 1960s psychedelic and counter-cultural scenes but with little perceived commercial potential. Switched-On Bach (1968), a bestselling album of Bach compositions arranged for synthesizer by Wendy Carlos, took synthesizers to the mainstream. They were adopted by electronic acts and pop and rock groups in the 1960s and 1970s, and widely used in 1980s rock. Sampling, introduced with the Fairlight synthesizer in 1979, has influenced all genres of music and had a major influence on the development of electronic and hip hop music. Today, the synthesizer is used in nearly every genre of music, and is considered one of the most important instruments in the music industry. According to Fact in 2016, "The synthesizer is as important, and as ubiquitous, in modern music today as the human voice."

Peak 'Keith Moon losing his shit' drumming is on Quadrophenia, most prominently "Bell Boy" (on which he also does a terrible Cockney accent). If you want some *really* off-the-chain synth work, you need to turn to Emerson, Lake & Palmer. "Trilogy" or "The Endless Enigma" (all three parts, look for a video around 10 minutes long) will give you a good taste of their style without diving straight into the deep end of "Tarkus" or "Karn Evil 9." And then there's the Moody Blues, where a lot of what you think is violins is in fact a Mellotron (proto-synthesizer, basically). "Question" is probably the easiest song to remove from its on-album context, since their songs tend to flow directly into each other. Days of Future Passed is one HELL of an album.

He did a lot of very fine drumming especially on quadrophenia. However, he was not a consistent or creative percussionist in terms of composition. For rock music, I would rate Neil Peart as the best, if your definition is someone wholly dedicated to their craft, ever growing and changing and willing to learn new things, And that inspiration having the dedication to eschew the rock and roll lifestyle in order to deliver the best performance he could under any circumstance. Keith's story is tragic, And I'm sad for what he could have become.

Keith Moon was a wonderful and interesting drummer. I loved his wild abandon. It was especially great on quadrophenia. However, He's not even in the same league with Neil peart. Neil was a consummate composer and percussionist. Keith Moon would not even come close to the all-around greatness that was Mr Peart. Sadly, he died before he could become greater. Of course I suppose all of this depends upon your definition of the word good or great. They were different kinds of percussionists.
