They were filming ‘Alien’ at the same time in this studio. The film crew borrowed their lasers for the scene in the Queen’s egg chamber. We had the shit back then for entertainment!

the blue laser was a rare laser in 1978, and next door Ridley Scott was filming Alien. Ridley asked the Who to borrow their laser. It was The Who's laser covering the egg chamber in the film

Light show like that in the seventies ? Absolutely. The who had the best, most innovative intros in history. Check some other songs. Great intros. The lyrics were so so good. Like listening to poetry. Lyrics were a big thing in those days. Something modern day rappers should appreciate. They always say it’s all about the bars. And this is next level musicianship. There’s no weakness in any part of this band. Everybody watches Daltrys screaming, Townsends manic guitar and energy and Keith Moon on drums but go back and check out John Entwhistles bass in this song. He goes at it man. He goes at it hard. Live shows like this don’t happen very often.

Thanks for the reaction. "The Who" rock no doubt about it. I remember the concert for NYC after 9-11. I hadn't seen them in a long time and thought - Man those guys are getting old, hope they pull it off.. They slayed the place. Felt sorry for all the bands that had to follow them. I'd certainly watch more Who reactions. Thanks again.

Here comes Won’t get fooled again “ One of their Best songs ever!!! YEAAAAAAHHHHH!!!

The Who is definitely worth smiling about!! Great reaction. So much music in the library. Baba O'Riley (Shepperton Studios version) is a song I would love to see a reaction to, all in due time. They were the first to destroy their instruments...and hotel rooms making them rebels of rock. Their songs have a lot to say. Pete Townsend wrote this song after an altercation at Woodstock,, as he didn't want the stage hijacked for agendas. Welcome to The Who. Peace ✌ ☮

The WHO….. “The Kids Are Alright” Tour 1989. Rich Stadium Buffalo N.Y…….. AWESOME After the concert the Who were being interviewed on the local radio station and the DJ asked the band…. “So what do you think about that new RAP music coming out”…. Roger Daltrey laughed and started to answer when John Entwistle said….. “let me answer this one….. It seems to me that if you can’t write music, can’t play music, can’t sing music, if you know absolutely nothing at all about music, well then, you do rap now don’t you”….. Then. Pete Townshend said….. “If Hitler was going to come back and torture the world again he would use rap music. Roger Daltrey laughed and said…. “Isn’t that the truth”

Regarding the laser show at the end, the movie "Alien" was being filmed in the studio next to where The Who did this performance at Shepperton Studios. The cast and crew of the movie wandered over to see The Who's performance and they were blown away by the lasers at the end of Won't Get Fooled Again. The Who lent their lasers to the Alien production and it was used in the movie. Next time you see the movie Alien, keep an eye out for the lasers The Who lent to them. But I digress. You should react to Baba O'Riley at Shepperton Studios next.

A Hi-Hat cymbal is actually 2 cymbals mounted together on a stand. The bottom one is fixed while the top one is attached to a pedal that allows the drummer to raise or lower it so that it is sometimes in contact with the bottom. The drummer here is Keith Moon (the Loon) and his kit does not include a hi-hat, so the cymbal that went flying was a crash cymbal.

I think the wing nut that secured the cymbal just became unscrewed, enabling the drummer to swing upward and knock it off the stand. If you watch an extended version of this, the drummer jumps forward off his stool in front of the drum kit. Thanks for posting.

In 1970 PT was asked by a left-wing socialist group of Who fans if he could write an anti-right-wing anthem (with Nixon in the Whitehouse, and Heath in No10). Instead he wrote this, with its anarchist/nihilist coda - 'Meet the New Boss/Same as the Old Boss.' According to one source (on KZbin, in fact) the laser/synth bit near the end was meant to be 'hypnotic' - suggesting we are hypnotised into thinking the New rulers will be better than the Old - until the Who wake us up. A masterpiece, imho, xxx

The kinds of laser shows you see here were promptly outlawed in the USA and the rest of the world followed. There were only three bands that did this sort of thing in the late seventies: Led Zeppelin, Blue Öyster Cult and The Who. It was deemed way too dangerous to the eyes of the audience and has never been replicated on this scale in live settings since. It is not CGI or some camera trickery .. this is what it looked like before it got universally banned and removed. Great song and fantastic drama, it was to be the last hurra for Keith Moon the lunatic drummer that died not long after. [edit]: as far as I know, BÖC were the first to use lasers like this and the one band of the three that couldn't really afford it, it was a minor metal band that had a physics professor from NYC build the system for them. It was catastrophically unreliable, laser tubes would brake and require regular maintenance making it hugely unpractical and a pain in the ass to set up and transport. The FDA or some governmental function actually went to their concerts to measure the radiation and came to the conclusion that it was beyond the pale to expose audiences to such an experiment. Lasers were directed directly at the eyes of the paying public! It may or may not have been as dangerous as they claimed, but doing it like The Who did it is no longer an option. Of the three bands, this clip by The Who is the best to show what it might have looked like. There are clips of BÖC that shot it in use too but not of this quality, for Zeppelin it was used as part of an extended psychedelic guitar solo by Jimmy Page where he had a laser connected to the violin bow he used on his guitar. No good footage of this exists outside of bootleg filming. Lasers are sometimes used in productions still but never shot straight at the audiences eyes like here. Pink Floyd have used lasers in the 90s I think but much more controlled. The Zeppelin reunion at O2 arena had Jimmy Page standing inside a laser pyramid directed from above to the stage and not at the audience. It essentially existed between 1977 and 1979, something like that. Very short period and only three bands were involved as far as I know. Cheers 🍺

About the system, fake ass politicians etc. Funny, both Rodger Daltry, and Pete Townsend are politically conservative in their old age (mid 70s).
