This is early Who. Roger wasn't even heavily taping up his microphone. You're right, a group of misfits. And, it worked. I just read Roger Daltrey's book, Thanks A Lot Mr. Kibblewhite, My Story. It's unbelievable how different these guys were. Ironically, Roger's school teacher, Mr. Kibblewhite, told him he'd never amount to anything.

Every time The Who were on stage, it was a constant competition for the attention of the audience from Keith Moon (Drummer) Rodger Daltry (]vocals) Pete Townsend (guitar/vocals). The only guy that wasn't an ego maniac, was the great Bass player the "shy" John Entwistle. He would just stand in the back, and play some of the greatest Rock Bass Riffs ever. Keith Moon was insane, but funny and likable at the same time. This was a great Classic Rock Band. Top three all time easy.

One needs to understand that no one, no one, not any band absent The Who, represented what Dylan said about rock & roll, that it was based on true rebellion...I remember a statement saying that The Who had three of the greatest rock and roll performers in the world, and roger daltrey, no knock, was the rest, yes, The Beatles are more instructive, The Stones sexier, but The Who, The Who, grabbed your girlfriend in a frenzy, and deflowered her in a way uninmanageable to your senses, and for you, and she, will never, ever be the same...they shattered your spine...and you were better for it...the moment soars and pierces every preconceived notion of the world...that is rock and roll at its true nature, and the who gave you that...they fucked you and all you held dear...and you can only smile...no one in the annuals of rock and roll did this...fuck me running sideways, what the youth do not understand how fragile and potentially inconsequential rock may have been without this band having kicked our assess ...indeed, rebellion...yes, now I understand
