You can't go wrong with The Who, they were a popular singles band that got into making incredible albums later. All 4 members were incredible, Keith Moon is amazing to watch in old videos, twirling his sticks, tossing them into the air to catch them just in time for the next beat. He was bigger than life with the soul of an imp and the face of an angel.

The Who, Young Man Blues, Live at Leads. My dad showed me that in 2001. My sister was in a ballet lesson at the time. I have a very visceral memory of my dad climbing back into his VW Jetta, closing his door and saying to me "Son, I've got something I wanna show you." Up ti this point in time, I'd only ever heard "wheels on the bus" and other kids songs. My dad pops in the CD, and The Who proceed to methodically blow my 6 year old brains out. As far as I'm concerned, the Who have always been and will always be *ROCK AND ROLL.*

Don't be too angry about missing out when you were younger though Kel.... if you had experienced these bands when you were a kid, you might not appreciate it as much as you do now. The Who at their prime. Townsend called it their "glory years". I was fortunate to be able to see the band a year before Moonie passed away. Such a memorable outdoor concert (it was just The Who and The Grateful Dead) and they both kicked ass in their respective ways. I really appreciate you paying tribute to them. I also recommend you check out some their tunes from the Woodstock concert such as "Pinball Wizard". Thanks again.

Hey guys - Thanks so much for running with my suggestion! I KNEW you would love it. I've been obsessed with this clip for months now (just ask my daughter, who legitimately loves it as well)! My other favorite #Who track over the past several years is the Live at Leeds version of Amazing Journey/Sparks (originally from "Tommy") [Note: If you want to, you can isolate the bass by turning the balance all the way to the left - that works for the whole Live at Leeds album]: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXjXc6tunLxrpsU - And, if you want a different angle on the band, try Pete Townshend's solo acoustic version of Drowned from the "Secret Policeman's Other Ball" album (originally from "Quadrophenia" - my favorite album of theirs): kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKWcpJ-ngcSYidk
@michaelgross8635
@michaelgross8635 5 жыл бұрын
One more #Who suggestion - also from "Live at Leeds (and a bigger treat for the isolated bass on the left channel) - the Who's version of Eddie Cochran's Summertime Blues: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWbNf3eHobB3iJY - and here's the original Eddie Cochran version from 1958: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5-aq2p4bZyDq8U - Eddie Cochran, along with others like Gene Vincent and Little Richard, were a big influence on the Beatles and other British Invasion bands like the Stones and the Who.

Hi Kel-n-Rich, I have really enjoyed watching many of your reaction videos, thanks for sharing them with us. Young Man's Blues is an old Mose Allison song that Pete really liked. The Who really are unique, and the late great Gary Moore once said after coming out of a Who concert as a 14 year old in Belfast in 1966 that after seeing The Who he felt like he had been in a fight! And he said that The Who were the first punk band and I think he summed them up pretty well? Do check out The Who's 1975 album Who By Numbers, it is a largely forgotten hidden gem, and has some incredible songs on it.

I love The Who, they were my 1st concert experience in 1981, sadly no Keith Moon. They started as a brilliant singles band and grew into an incredible album band. You need to react to their performance from the Rolling Stone's "Rock and Roll Circus." Their performance of 'A Quick One, While He's Away' shamed the Stones so much that they shelved the project for 30 years.

Just watched it again to catch more of your facial expressions - which were priceless! :-) You asked where the song came from. It's an old blues by Mose Allison that was a staple of early who concert sets. I wouldn't be surprised if they're still doing it on the current tour (just Daltrey and Townshend now, but likely a great band behind them, though nothing compares to Moon and Entwistle. I was a little late in truly appreciating The Who myself. I'd always loved the hits, but seeing them live in '89, '96, and 2000 (especially 2000), plus multiple solo Townshend shows really cemented their reputation for me. You should definitely seek out the rest of the Isle of Wight show, plus the "Live at Leeds" album (make sure it's the remastered version which has more than twice as much music as the original single-vinyl album). Their performance at the Concert for NY (just after 9/11) was not perfect, but quite powerful. So much #who to recommend. Email me, my friends. I've got stories. :-)

cool fact - Ringo Starr's son Zak Starkey is the current drummer for the Who. Keith Moon gave Ringo Starr’s son Zak his first drum kit. Moon was one of Ringo’s closest friends and Zak Starkey's godfather. Pete Townshend himself has called Zak “the karmic Keith Moon.” Zak says, “Keith was like an uncle, really. He was one of my dad’s best friends. When my brother, sister, and I used to stay with my dad there, we would occasionally spend a few days at Keith’s house. Keith was the babysitter. “

You two are the most fun to watch, ever. Rich, you are blessed with a gorgeous wife, who shares your love of music, but who is just coming into the world that we all grew up in. And Kel has the perfect partner for her new adventure. Every one of your videos is like listening to these songs for the first time all over again, and I thank you both for sharing that! ;-) My daughter is a blues guitarist and singer in Nashville with her own travelling group (Nikki Barber and the Minks), and watching her come to her musical 'place' has been the wonder of my life. Can't wait to hear Kel start to rip on her guitar!! ;-)

Thank you so much Richard. What you have written really lands for both Kel and I. Thank you for being so bold and honest enough to share this. We just live that you are choosing to hang out with us. We just posted 2 new vids from yesterday. Prong and Savatage. Have fun with those.

Kel, I love you in a cool way! You are so awesome and I grew up knowing a few serious musicians that had never experienced some really great bands and musicians. Love you both! Keep bringing some awesome music.

Don't ever change Kel.Your reactions are priceless.The Who from around this period were amazing.I don't think any band could match them for their raw energy when playing live at this stage.I was lucky enough to see them in 1976 and they certainly blew me away.
