It's insane how they straight out ignore that she is in danger for alcoholism because drinking is so all so important in their culture. She even had a test telling her she's in danger and literally no one on the show actually cared. It baffles me how they make it so seem so normal and acceptable to drink every day. At this point, I was glad that at least Don Spike was voting it as a concern since she came out herself to the show to get help. I really wish for the woman to actually get support and stop drinking.

I'd probably end up being unemployed >_< I don't drink alcohol, even just a little. I don't like the taste of it, and I hate seeing my friends looking miserable after drinking too much and having hangovers. I just don't see the logic of it (although a lot of my friends have been telling me of its health benefits). I'm a very stubborn person but I'm quite open-minded and accepting of other people's preference and differences, as long as they don't force their practices and ideals on me. So yeah... If socializing with alcohol is required for work... I'd probably be without a job TT~TT

I hope they can go to counseling for this. I have a distant family member who recently got admitted to the hospital due to alcohol withdrawal. What happened is that for a long time he's been an alcoholic, but when his grandmother died, he suddenly stopped drinking. I don't know much about his current condition but from what I've heard, he "could die at any time". Just stopping immediately can be very dangerous, so I hope that they take the right steps to recovery.

Hey, congrats for doing that, that's great! However, even though that would be the ideal, not everyone's has the same amount of strength as you, some people need the help of others and that doesn't make them weak or bad, and doing it all by yourself, doesn't make you better either. Just a friendly reminder that everyone's different IMO :)

I think the problem is how this show presented this concern. They were talking really light heartly and it seemed like that the (actually serious) stories of the girl were more of funny stories. Even me found this more comical than serious even though I know how alcoholism is really serious especially in SK. It wasn't really a serious mood, which could be because of the editing or hosts. It would have helped a lot if the whole mood has been serious for the viewer to see the actual danger and matter of this concern.
@kimgrace422
@kimgrace422 5 жыл бұрын
I think it was not as problematic because people take is seriously when alcoholism leads to violence. Yes, health is concerning but they are aware and it's really on the individual to care for their own health. It's like fast food culture in America where people know its bad for health and causes obesity but they can't really do much as to just letting them know its bad. This family seems to have very happy and healthy relationship. Many times just one person in the family would drink so much and cause problems in the family, but they are bonding through alcohol and their family is so happy that they didn't think it was a huge concern. SK is also a very safe country so as long as the girl controls how much she drinks outside enough to not hurt herself, there is no problem to her safety. I also feel that as drinking is huge part of Korean culture that this family is actually a good example of taking alcohol and being at peace. Like alcohol is usually the cause for dysfunctional family but this family is healthy. So, if drinking can't be eliminated, why not be like this family and not cause violence and actually have bonding moment with family.

Agree, I think she hasn't understood that the one that should change first is her, if the problem get's worse, she won't have an option anymore. However, I still think that what she said was a valid point; I understand if her family wants to keep drinking but changing habits needs support and mental strength, without it it's almost impossible to do it. How are u going to change if your parents keep telling you to do it and that your health it's not that important? It'll be confusing (but yeah, it's still her body so she should fix it by herself). I also think that she said it that way because she's way concerned about her father's health, she started to drink because of her family's validation and now she wants to quit it because she's understanding how dangerous it is.

@@lavoshakern it is actually rare that it happens. the reason why it was a huge problem is bc i usually never happens and its just that burning sun scandal. While in other countries you should not leave your drink unattended because it happens so often, that is not the case in Korea. Like unless you put yourself in such situation, it would not happen. Also, at least Korea take this seriously and public announces as a huge problem. Girls get drugged in their drinks all the time in the States. 아픈적이 한번도 없었다니....건강은 서서히 나빠지는게 아니라 어느 순간 증상이 확 나타납니다. 알콜중독을 가볍게 여기는 카운셀러들의 생각이 좀 위험하네요.

I think if she seriously wanted to quit she would do so and not give in when her dad asks her to drink. She really has no will power to do it on her own. She can't blame her parents for that.

Well, it can be hard to quit something if you're in an environment where they enable you to continue. They could at least make it easier for her to quit instead of making it harder.

You guys do realize how culture shape your thoughts and point of view ? You want to discuss our ease with poverty sexual things in the media and how we don't really seem to care about ""soft"" drugs ? Ethnocentrism at its peak

So shes an alcoholic.. why is she coming on a tv show? use your common sense and get professional help....

There is absolutely nothing funny or entertaining about this situation. They are alcoholics and need help. I notice many issues on this show are centered around alcoholism and the suggestion is always to simply drink less. However, for the alcoholic, that is not a realistic option, because the nature of addiction dictates a lack of self control. They can not control themselves. How this only got 34 votes is a clear indication the Korean society has no true idea of the dynamics of alcoholism, or the risk factors associated with it. This is so sad and dangerous.

I have an idea. Hello Counselor brings Dr. Phil as a guest with people that has alcoholism, narcissism, etc. Basically problems that isn't a concern in Korea but it is EVERYWHERE else 😑
