You continue to amaze me Gaynor! This entire video is probably one of the most insightful and reflective I've encountered. It genuinely gives insight into you as an artist in the most transparent, raw way. I'll come back to this several times in the coming days - there's just so much to comprehend in who you are as an artist. Simply beautiful in everything you do. Be well! and as always Thank YOU!

I cut all of my own stencils and masks. I use super cheap file folders. Because they are cheap, the card is really thin, but the stencils last for several prints. I really like the idea of drawing on the plate with the roller like you do. I'll definitely be adding that to my next gel print session. I laughed when you said Bear with me. One of my favore sayings that I painted onto a tote bag: 'I like the saying Bear with Me, because it can either mean Please be Patient or The Heist at the Zoo was Successful.'

I love how you love making art Gaynor! I am like you in wanting to see an end result but am having to practice patience and enjoy the process and not the outcome. I recently read the quote 'Great art is made by uncertainty' and also 'find yourself as you go'. I think your sketchbooks are wonderful and I see them as investigative places. I have just treated myself to an expensive sketchbook (because I am worth it!) and am enjoying experimenting with all types of art mediums. I look forward to sitting alone while the evening meal is cooking and lose myself in the pages for an hour or so. I hope you have a lovely creative week. x

I am so sorry that I was so late to discovering your channel however I am going back and watching as much as I can because you are so inspiring. Although we do very different styles of art I absolutely love watching your process. I love when you do Landscapes and florals that are semi-realistic or expressionist even. I'm not a fan of abstract art but you have done some pieces that I go well that's really pretty. Thank you so much for what you were doing, you are helping a lot of us to stay more fresh and what we do. Me personally I do a Sketchbook practice early in the morning because I get up between 2:30 and 3:00 a.m. so after my first couple of cups of coffee then I pick up my Sketchbook and start working. However I am known to go anytime during the day or evening and grab my Sketchbook and put down whatever is in my mind that I don't want to lose before I have a chance to work it through and decide if it's going to be a final drawing.

Thank you for your take on what a sketchbook is. It can be depressing for a newbie to see the sketchbook of others. Mine does not look like that. It looks like a hot mess. But to think of it as a tool, as a playmate, instead of a finished artwork, is more realistic, especially for a beginner. Thanks for keeping it real.

Love love love seeing the seaside town in the beginning of your video! I am as impatient as anyone can be, hence I purchased 3 gelli plates in 12" X 12", 3 of 6" X 6", 2 of the 8" X 10" and 2 of 5" X 7". I can work on 3 -4 at a time and never have to stop to wait for any of them to dry! Just an idea you might embrace!

@@gaynorpattle Gaynor, I am so thrilled to make you laugh out loud! I forgot to mention that I sprung for not 1 but 2 of the largest gelli plates available (at least on this planet), the 16" X 20"! As if ONE plate that size wasn't enough, I decided it would be great fun and adventure to place the 2 jumbo plates together, to form a mono print surface either 20" x 32" OR 16" X 40" depending on how I arrange the 2 plates! ! I haven't attempted either size print just yet, but I think it's time to get out the large roll of BFK Rives printing paper and try a few of these huge prints! I'll keep you posted and will try to share a print or two in the very near future!!

I particularly liked the statement ending with ….I can’t NOT do art. Absolutely spot on. You have really inspired me yet again. One question though. Was the book with the tag bookmark you were reading from early in the video, your own personal notes? If so you should publish it😂 Such insight and wise words. First class. Thank you sooooo much. 💐

Hey Gaynor I made a painting dividing the canvas like a sketchbook. I wish I could have the confidence to sell my art. I petrified taking my paintings to the framers I case she would laugh. So when I won the art prize two years in a row I was just flabbergasted. Especially when my best friend said my paintings were too psychological for her. Which is a bit of a laugh considering she comes from Vienna.

Please can you explain the difference between making marks and scribbling. I've been reluctant to try making marks in case it looks as though I've let my young grandson loose
@gaynorpattle
@gaynorpattle Жыл бұрын
Hi Denise, a very good question.....anything that is a result from your contact with the paper or canvas !!!! There is no right or wrong - just marks - playful marks exactly in the style of your grandson, intentional marks, lines, gestural swooping marks.....If you feel reluctant, take a large sheet of paper, get every pen, pencil, crayon, pastel, etc that you have and set a timer for 10 minutes and see if you can just let go and have a bit of fun. You might hate it, you might love it and you might find a particular way of making a mark that you can repeat in your paintings. Most of my paintings now start with a session of mark making and most of it is then covered in another layer of paint BUT sometimes small areas are allowed to peep through 😀 The key thing is NOT to worry what it looks like - just experience the fun of it. 🥰

@@gaynorpattle thank you so much for your encouragement. What particularly draws me to your art is that it’s recognisable even in its loose (abstract?) style. I did a course online earlier this year in abstract art and quite liked the results but sometimes it’s a bit too abstract to make any sense to me. Your videos feel as though we, the viewers, are getting a really good art foundation.
