Fascinating movie! I've actually been to many of the sites in this film: Anworth and Mochrum villages, stayed in the Ellan Gowan hotel, found the "cave" where Sgt. Howie emerges before being taken to the statue to be burned, saw the remains of the smaller Wicker Man statue legs in their concrete base on the cliffs at Burrow Head, and actually found the concrete footings for the larger effigy nearby! They are not marked, and are very difficult to locate as they are covered by thick grasses. Also visited St. Ninian's cave about 2 miles to the north on the coast where St. Howie and Rowan enter the "cave" to evade capture. Powerful places!!! To quote Sir Christopher Lee "It was a BRILLIANT FILM! A BRILLIANT FILM!"

Excellent movie. Too bad the sequel is not good and more gory. The redo of the original is horroble.
