Protips for the people who are unironically considering horse electrolytes: Put some water in a pot/kettle and heat it up. Put a big spoonful of sugar/substitute, and a dash of citrus juice/citric acid (very cheap)/vinegar and either salt or table potassium in a mug. So Joseph's a little off-base on the corporate vtuber stuff. The whole "sign your identity away" thing almost never happens. Bigger ones like Hololive and Nijisanji will do auditions and when they've signed people, they create entirely new characters, models, and names for them. The people in chat who think "they own these people's characters after they leave, meaning they can just replace them with a different person!" while technically true, I don't think anybody's tried that since Kizuna Ai, because it went really poorly for them. They just retire the character, and the talent starts a new one, or goes back to the one they were using before as an indie, usually with a huge swell in followers due to having grown a massive fanbase over their time there (assuming they continue streaming, which some don't). Most (as far as I can tell) of the smaller companies, usually the ones founded in part by talent themselves, do also let people keep their names/characters/channels if they decide to leave, because as normalized as that is, he's absolutely right that it's kind of an insane, archaic practice that shouldn't have been imported from idol culture, much like literally every other part of idol culture.
@cashclam1126Ай бұрын
Yeah MBT does seem a bit out of touch with the vtubing space but I can’t blame him for being disinterested in it. There are some facts he gets wrong but he literally does not interact with the space.
@NothingKingKNАй бұрын
To a somewhat of an outsider like me, corporate VTubing really looks and feels like they took every abusive trait of idol culture and just put an anime filter on it. People see an environment where criticising or disagreeing with management leads to what is basically a soft firing and everyone just goes "Yeah. This is how it works, I see nothing wrong with it. It's just idol culture".
@daltroniusАй бұрын
I think your misunderstanding what a graduation is, termination is a firing, graduation is a talent deciding to leave. Deciding to leave after "disagreements" isnt out of the ordinary in basically any line of work.@NothingKingKN
@NothingKingKNАй бұрын
@@daltronius Aye, got it, I normally use "Getting fired" and "Leaving your job" interchangeably, but I see how being amicable about it can change things. Still, if we want to keep it in mundane terms, it feels like "Once you leave this company, you need to change your name, have a plastic surgery, and burn your CV", which... Yeah, no, it still sounds like shit. Maybe I just don't get the work culture of losing your identity after a managerial disagreement.
@daltroniusАй бұрын
@NothingKingKN not at all, that would assume that fauna for example was fauna before holo, then they are just taking her identity she had beforehand. This is more like you are hired to be the mascot and tweet thru that acct and when you leave they ask you to give the costume back. Now i do dislike when they have "no contact" orders, bc i feel thats unnecessarily restrictive. But pretending that the corporate identity they take on while at the company is the same as ur birth identity is a massive leap in logic.

@ Textures are really important to me when it comes to food, but I do still have a sense of taste. So some foods people don’t like because of the smell I don’t really mind (heavy onion and garlic, fish, durian, etc,) but not many foods are really gross without a sense of smell. The closest would be something like Cinnabon, which imo is extremely mid at best, but you can watch people get hypnotized by the smell. It’s kinda surreal. Maybe also wine? I don’t know how legitimate the subtle differences between wines are, but I assume not being able to smell does ruin the enjoyment in a major way, but I’m not a fan of the taste of alcohol to begin with, so idk.

my two cents as someone who used to be a selen tatsuki fan (and now is a dokibird fan), on the vtubing situation: the two largest groups historically, hololive and nijisanji work on a model that is inherently flawed but that is common standard for japan corpo politics, and they are significantly hindered by the anal JP copyright laws. "they knew what they got into, they signed the contract" is an inherently flawed argument because most of the people who joined these corporations 2-3 years or longer ago straight up were too naive to properly read through their contracts with a lawyer who can explain everything. i *think* if you are a vtuber who wants to join corpo, (or if you are a regular streamer who wants to go corpo vtuber), it's better to apply for one of the brave group corpos or for vshojo instead, even though the growth will be worse than joining holo. Joining niji on the EN side probably is probably worse than joining idol (the biggest brave group corpo), but better growth wise than the smaller ones, but niji takes a way bigger cut than most other corpos seem to take and for the love of god INVOLVE A LAWYER WITH THE CONTRACT

CORRECTION As a Mormon, it's not actually agreed upon if we're not allowed to drink caffeine (though coffee is agreed upon as being against the Word of Wisdom). Some decide that they're against it, some are fine, and I choose not to anyways just to be sure. Now, as having moved from Illinois to Idaho the past couple of years (going to school at BYUI), I hadn't heard it called "dirty soda", but there are multiple (at least 2-3) soda shops here in Rexburg that add flavored syrup to various sodas, and that's on top of the syrups being easily available in the local supermarkets. In fact, today there's a special at the on-campus cafeteria with a discount on them. So yeah, can confirm that it is apparently a thing around here. Never considered it as being our replacement for full alcohol bars but it makes sense.

There is however a dietary restriction of coffee and tea(from the tea plant, herbal is okay) both of which have caffeine in them. So some 50 or so years ago somebody decided that all caffeine was bad and advised others not to drink it. But they didnt have the authority to change anything about the actual doctrine so caffiene in sodas and other drinks is okay.

Id argue comparing a vtuber org to machinima is vastly overestating what machinima did and vastly understating what vtuber orgs do, tho it is crazy to love an org unconditionally, i prefer holo talents, but thats bc of the talents lineup and the general vibe theey give off. You could go into the vtuber industry as an indie, many many many people do, but doing so is very risky, just like starting up any other entrepreneurial endeavor, as you have to pay/draw a model, pay/rig the model yourself, and any future events or models u want are paid for by you. Not impossible but very costly. Vtuber orgs pay for your model and rigging(if they are good, been hearing some awful things regarding that from niji) and get you started as part of a larger community, allowing you a higher chance of success that you can later leverage into a solo career if u want to. They pay for most things up front for the talents in regards to future models and such, along with massive events to expand your fanbase. Comparing them to a company that fid basically nothing but collect a large percentage just to give u copyright protection way back when is a false equivalency. Feel free to dislike these orgs, its up to each person to decide whats best for them, but pretending they do nothing and just collect money from you is wrong.
@GreyVictory1510Ай бұрын
Yeah, people seem to not understand how it works. Would most people prefer if the people leaving could take their new Persona with them? Yes. But that is something created, owned and paid for by the company. Some allow buying basically the IP when leaving. But the bigger it is the more expensive it is. The offer for people joining though is that it is basically an explosive start and near guaranteed success if you make it in. And if you build a following you will also be able to probably carry a lot of fans over when you eventually leave. People also don't seem to understand that leaving when your demands to your employer are not met is not weird. And that you can't just take everything the company owned that was provided to you with you is also normal. If an actor stops acting for a show, they don't get to take the character from the show with them. It is in principle the same thing.
@hanahomemadepizza1424Ай бұрын
As a massive Vtuber fan, yeah no this part of the business is shit. Can someone explain to me the PHD in smells? Most I could gather from it was its a review of cultural perceptions and literature regarding smell used to indite things like race, culture, etc. My eyes rolled out of my head when I read "Misogynoir". While I don't want to be snooty about degrees 'n' PHDs, this work doesn't inspire hope agianst the idea that University degrees are just smart people wallpaper.
@eden3669Ай бұрын
i think its something along the lines of "smell is used to indicate disgust --> most peoples morality is based on disgust (this is why they treat minorities bad, because they feel disgust towards them) --> books use descriptions of smell to subtly frame something as good or bad", which is genuinely a really interesting topic but at the same time, it seems like the focus might be on "heres how this ties in with [a bunch of separate instances of people treating minorities badly]" and not "disgust-morality is the real mechanism underpinning ALL of this", which would make it a lot less interesting. also "misogynoir" is a word ive seen outside of academia stuff but im not sure how common it is or if it only gets used in like, liberal [mainstream dem, not leftist] circles

What the hell is the v tuber thing about? Isnt v tubing just streaming with a filter? Why do you need a manager any more than any other social media personality
@NothingKingKNАй бұрын
Alrighty, buckle up because it's a fun ride: VTubing costs quite a buck. And it's a medium where appearance is basically everything since it's based on Japanese idol culture. You CAN go live with a shit ass free model you get on the Steam app, but nobody will every watch you because... Well... It's low quality. It's like having a good camera and a good microphone when you go live. A VTuber Corporation basically front-loads all the expensive stuff. The model, the rigging, sometimes the hardware like tracking cameras, mocap, computers, the likes, and in exchange you basically livestream for them and they earn a cut. Being big conglomerates also guarantee you an audience that is hard to gain in the currently saturated market. As time goes on and technology is updated, things like motion tracking for eyes and mouth, different sets of rigs for your model, and brush-ups for older ones all get mostly front-loaded by the company. The cut is shared between the two parties, and the cut is usually by donations and super chats, not by salary, so it's imperative that you cultivate a fanbase of people willing to pay you. However, when you leave the company, the company itself seizes all the assets that it gave you, or at least the software. So they get your image, your name under their corporation, the whole nine yards, and you're basically disbarred from ever interacting publicly with any other talent you previously worked with. Some people manage to ride the wave of their fame out of the building, like how Selen did when she got fired, while others live lives mired in hatred by their previous fans, like Sayu. MBT was arguing about the fact that it's a very toxic business practice, the one of distancing a talent over disagreement and then disbarring them from ever using the character they became famous for, and that hiding behind the fact that it's the norm is stupid. Big corporate VTubing is harsh. It's shit. It's full of things you're sometimes forced to do, and as MBT said: "There isn't a good big company. They all suck the same."
@daltroniusАй бұрын
@@NothingKingKNthey dont "all suck the same" bc there are absolutely tiers to this, that foesnt mean any company is great or good, but pretending a company like Niji that pits its talents against each other to fight for viewers and merch is as bad as hololive, a company that recently has had some bts issues that we font know but otherwise seems to be on the higher end of treatment is bonkers.
@NothingKingKNАй бұрын
@@daltronius My point is that there isn't a wholly good big VTuber Corporation that does everything good. We thought Niji was a good corporation up a couple years ago and in less than one year we discovered that it has always been shit like that, we just didn't know. Even Hololive can be like that and we might just not know about it. A lot of talents left recently over "Disagreements with management". Every VTuber corporation sucks. It can be because poor management, it can be because they pit talents against one another for screen time and value, it can be because they dox their talents as petty revenge, it can be because it makes no money and survives off the money of a bigger conglomerate behind it. A lot of talents have to live with this Sword of Damocles above their head, because they're entertainers. One may never know the day someone will fall out of relevance, the company will shut down and leave everyone a stray, or... I don't know, have a three pages termination letter and be blacklisted from ever breathing the same air as anyone else.
@daltroniusАй бұрын
@NothingKingKN but theres a massive difference between "all companies suck the same" and all companies suck. While i fo agree that we will never know whats truly goin on inside thee company, saying that hololive and niji suck the same is like saying a mom and pop shop suck the same as Walmart. It might but until we have any evidence beyond vague "disagreements with management" which could mean anything from pr availability to monetary compensation, we cant make that determination.

Hey MBT just a heads up on two things, the official name for Mormons is not Mormons. It’s a lengthy name but gotta respect religions, they are the members of the church of Christ of later day saints, that is the official title. Two, they CAN drink caffeine. They have something called the word of wisdom where they are not permitted to drink coffee or tea made from leaves. It’s an obedient to God thing that members don’t quite understand the bigger reason as to why, it’s something that they take on faith. Members extrapolate from that though and go an extra mile to mean that as no caffeine whatsoever, but that is not part of the meaning official teachings of the church. Caffeine is okay to drink in the religion, energy drinks and sodas are okay to drink in the religion, just some members decide to say no to that because they feel special

You don't have to respect Mormons and I won't

I will, in fact, not respect religions. Why do I have to do that exactly?

@ simply because it’s right. As long as it’s not harmful to people, it’s just the good thing to do. We shouldn’t be rude to people or groups purely based on their religion.
