I got my Wii because of an awesome neighbor. I remember my brother sitting me down anf telling me we likely weren't going to get a wii. In comes the neighbor. He is a pilot and was a couple states over. He called my parents because he found a Wii in a random store, and asked them if we wanted it. Of course, they bought it off of him. The crazy thing is he had a kid my age and one a couple years younger, but they didn't get a wii for another year. Awesome dude (also helped us frame an addition to our house)

I was 15 when I got my Wii. I remember the forecast and weather channels were some of the highlights for me. It made it feel like a more adult console with a lot of "stay in touch with the world" features. Twilight Princess was my first game on the thing and I loved it to death, still my favorite version over GC and Wii U.

Not counting specific iterations of consoles like the Game Boy Advance SP and the 2DS, the Wii is the only Nintendo console I've never owned. I was a poor college student when it came out and just couldn't afford it for a while, but I wasn't even interested in getting one later on. I had The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for GameCube and that was all I really cared about. Nothing else on the Wii really grabbed my attention, and it seemed to be geared way too heavily toward the casual crowd for me to take much notice of it. When the Wii U came along with backward compatibility for Wii games, that cemented my refusal to ever get a Wii.

I got my Wii when I was 16 in 2006. Delivered a lot newspapers in rainy days to get it. I pre-ordered it so I was a very early adopter. And all I wanted to play was Twilight Princess.. After being hyped for 2 years with some screenshots and a awesome trailer. Good times! ❤️

I remember that I got my Wii on a complete whim. My parents and I were grocery shopping like every Saturday, and just like that, they bought me one. I don't remember if it was because I was on my best behaviour that day or if my dad got a bonus and didn't know what to spend it on, but it was a special day that I miss dearly. I didn't even ask for it.

In the days leading up to the Wii's launch, I was never more obsessed with something's release date than anything else in my entire life. I even camped out in front of the store the night before its launch! I'll never forget it. The Wii remains one of my favorite console memories. There were so many great games, and amazing memories I had with it. Good times.

I purchased my 1st Wii at Kmart. I stood outside 3rd in line for 4 hours. Management gave out tickets at the door because there was more people in line than Wii's available. Alot of disappointed people in line that day. I was so glad I got to the store when I did. Used a vacation day to take off work. Today I am still playing my Wii. Right now Skylanders Giants. I play it more than my current consoles and I know I can play the game on the newer consoles and I have the game for the newer consoles but, I just like using the Wii remote and Nunchuck. I have a PS5, Xbox X, Xbox one, Playstation 1, 2,3, and 4. They are sitting quietly. I also have the Red Mario bundle Wii also purchased at Kmart. Happy Anniversary Wii!!

One of the first memories i have with the Nintendo Wii was before i actually owned one. My friend had just gotten his and brought it over to my house. I had a gaming chair at the time that you could hook up the audio to, so we hooked it up to the wii and turned up the volume and bass up to max. We ended up going into the 100 pin bowling game and we put the chair on its backside because thats where the subwoofer was, once the transition from one round to the next happened the bass SHOOK the whole house! It was hilarious and a very distinct memory for me, haha.

I know it gets a fair amount of hate, but the original Wii is one of my favorite consoles ever. The Virtual Console and retro-style games available on WiiWare were awesome, but even just its main library was great. Aside from the obvious ones, there were a lot of good 'niche' games... Sin & Punishment: Star Successor, MadWorld, House of the Dead: Overkill, The Last Story, Klonoa, Ghost Squad, Dragon Quest Swords, No More Heroes 1 and 2, Xenoblade Chronicles (it was niche at the time). Great library. From 2006-2010 I actually used it almost as much as my Xbox 360 and more than my PS3.

I remember the pre-launch hype around the Wii. I had just started my year studying abroad in (the outskirts of) Tokyo. My local department store wouldn't even accept pre-orders. I rode the train into the city proper (Shinjuku, Shibuya, Akihabara, Odaiba and occasionally elsewhere) at least once, usually twice, per week, and one day I was just strolling through Yodobashi Camera Akiba as usual and noticed a not huge, but still unusual number of people standing in line at the registries of the video game department, followed by me seeing the signs that they got some new Wiis, the second or third batch overall, so I just joined the line, and maybe ten minutes later or so I was walking out of the store with a bag carrying the hot item of the year. A surprisingly large number of people were in awe that I managed to get one at all, doubly so when I told them how randomly I came across it. Anyway, swinging a sword in Twilight Princess was the number one reason I wanted a Wii to begin with, and it remained my top game of the console. And I own somewhere between one and two dozen Wii games, but IIRC not many third-party, let alone anything obscure.

My friends also came to my house a lot, and we played like no tomorrow. My Wii’s still alive, and it’s good to know that now he can drive me around 😎 P.S: I still have my Mario Kart Wii cd till this barely day. If someone wants to play, just text around 💪.

I was 23 when the Wii was released. Thankfully I managed to get it on day 1 because I reserved it at HMV ridiculously early. But the day of its release in the UK- 8th December, is also the same day as my sister's birthday so I didn't touch it until the following day. The game I purchased on day one was LoZ: Twilight Princess. Of course it came wirh Wii Sports which I played with friends and family when they came over. But in the evenings and weekends when I didn't have plans, it was all about Twilight Princess. Speaking of which, where are the Switch HD ports for it and Wind Waker.

I had all my GameCube games on it then I had Mario Kart Wii, Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, Wii Play, Wii Play Motion, Wii Fit, Wii Fit Plus, The Sims Castaway, all the MySims games, and The Sims 3 which were specifically for the Wii. I wish I had known about the Animal Crossing games for the GameCube and Wii back then. Hopefully all of these games eventually get ported to the Switch (I have Nintendo Sports which is the successor to Wii Sports). I miss my Wii and these games. Somewhat related. I opened a VMU like first one Christmas and then my last present was a dreamcast. I was angry my mom thought it was a gameboy or something. My wii thing. I was eating dinner at my grandma's house when it was on the news CONSTANTLY about how it's sold out. My grandma was like angry the "wii machine" is hard to get. That night she says let's go to EB Games. I'm like ???? Because I didn't have money. We swing over. There's a woman in front of us returning a Wii. She announces intent to buy a Wii and gets that one. She then proceeded to spend 2 years to wonder why people just don't go to the store and buy a wii like she did. Not appreciating the luck of what just happened.

I remember thinking Mario Kart Wii required the Wii wheel accessory because we saw that Mario and Luigi were using Wii wheels on the box art. The only controller I was given was just the Wii remote I think(?) but we still tried it without the Wii wheel and we were surprised it worked. They actually did a good job with the Beatles Rockstar graphics. The chords shown and animations to fit the music were accurate most of the time which must have been some work to pull off. As a musician myself getting this game back in the day I was amazed by it! The models themselves are cartoony-looking but at least consistent in style overall. I also feel like pulling The Secret Rings of the shelves to feel for myself if it really was as bad as I remember:P Aside from that the Wii is one of those consoles that still gets me excited to play it after watching a KZbin video, weirdly more so than other consoles which I prefer. I have a similar story about opening up the games before the console - this happened to me when I got my GameCube on Christmas Day 2002, and I was kind of confused until I opened up the actual console. IIRC the first games I got were Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, Wallace & Gromit in Project Zoo, and Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly. There may have been others but I can't remember off the top of my head, though I do remember Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly feeling kind of off, which was probably down to its now infamous abyssmal performance on the console.

Gamecube games looked and ran identical on the Wii to how they looked on the Gamecube. The Wii hardware turned itself into a literal Gamecube (via downclocking) when playing a Gamecube game. (At least when running them from the system menu... however, there are homebrew solutions that allow the Wii to run at its full clock speed when playing GC games which helps eliminate slowdown in some games)
