A suprising masterpiece that's easily going to my top 10 movies of all time, yet it unfortunately has a bit of pacing issues. I was hoping they don't make a second one because the self-contained story is so good, and not only a sequel could undermine it a bit, but it'll make the pacing issues even more problematic as a result (Vontra should have been the sequel's antagonist instead of shoving her in at the last 20 minutes). I specially loved when Roz says "I AM the Wild Robot" and then proceeds to wild all over the robots. Anyone would think I'm just memeing. 9.5/10.

Some differences between this movie and the book In the book: • all Rozzum robots go by “Roz” • Fink and Pinktail had much smaller roles • Brightbill had a squirrel friend named Chitchat • Vontra doesn’t exist • Roz loses her leg in a bear attack • Thorn (the bear) is a cub and has a sister and mother • There is another goose character named Loudwing who’s role was split between Fink and Pinktail in this movie (also she’s the one who names Brightbill) • Brightbill masters flying almost immediately

@@nobodyimportant4210 Wow those are some differences lol. Can see why they would cut some of the extra characters.

Some food for thought: 🤔 - Fink in the book was intended to be an introduction to the concept of kindness on the island, where while he is initially a jerk, he quickly comes to be more respectful, while in the movie, he stays solidly in the "sly fox" category, but gets more backstory - which none of the animals really got aside from Brightbill in the book. - The book's main focus is "finding your purpose". This goes across the many chapters that Roz endures on the island, trying to understand what her purpose is. In the movie, the message(s) is more like "only in unity will we find strength", and "following our programming is not the only way". - Vontra should've had more of a role in the movie. She replaces the omnipotent "company + CEO" experienced in the books with a solidly villainous appearance, solidifying that in no way would a sequel ever be as accurate to the second book, since a ton of major plot points would make no sense. As such, she should've been more involved, rather than being a one-off appearance in what is basically one scene. - Chit-Chat is an amazing character that Fink sort of replaces; CC was a character for Brightbill to bounce off of, so that he and Roz could get more familiar with the island and it's residents. But Fink does this perfectly fine in the movie. - Same with the bear attack - too little time to worry about that sort of thing - but fairly well executed considering how much was cut. What sucks is how little of a reason the beavers had for helping Roz. Roz - in the book, at that point - has helped the bears, a fish, raised a goose, helped everyone with a garden, and most importantly, helped the beavers. We only see the beavers in the movie watching Roz, and while the turnout is sweet, it feels a tad abrupt for how quickly she and Fink stole his home. - With the focus shifting from "finding purpose" to "defying programming", and the premise of "always completes a task", the flying montage comes into existence, as in the book, there was no urgency for a task to complete. Teehee. I love rambling about the books.

I think a way I could personally sum the entire movie up, is this: Every story has been told before. There is no *new* type of story being told here, but you have never seen it told *in. this. way.* ever before. Every story has been told, so keep writing. Because YOUR version has not been told.

Using the robot to showcase a cold and distant relationship between a mother and a child, then STILL being able to build up love, affection, and sympathy for her child and other living things is why I truly think this movie just REALLY stands out. Like you said, it's a robot tale that knows how to be human and it takes a true master class of writing to make that believeable, especially in this day and age.

Too bad we won’t be seeing any more dreamworks films like this since this actually is the last film to be done in house by dreamworks themselves, so after this all movies will be done by other studios so they won’t or might be this beautifully styled, but this was definitely a nice end note in the end.

YES I did! I love the VERY subtle world building where you can put together the pieces: Humanity most likely went through a climate disaster of some sort that caused them to adapt and now food is grown in domes where animals are feared to contaminate it if they go in and humans like in 2009 Astro Boy-like cities.

Fair points and opinions, good to know it does well, I hope there will be a Sequel.
@Dairunt129 күн бұрын
Apparently it will. I'm not sure if I'm convinced since: 1) I loved the movie and thought a second movie would have been unnecessary. 2) Its' pacing issues made me feel that if there were going to be two movies, they should have spread them a bit more. Maybe introduce Vontra as the main villain for the 2nd movie and give her a more prominent role instead of appearing at the last 20 minutes of the first one.

A stop motion movie prevailing over a CGI feature will never be seen as a robbery imo since the stop motion medium is incredibly underrated, so any recognition is well deserved. (And Pinocchio had the better story, fight me)
@chiggyuggets6117Ай бұрын
I agree. Even though I love The Last Wish I think I got a little more of an emotional reaction out Pinocchio but that's just me. Now with that said I don't think we should be fighting over which movie is better because they're both great movies. If you want to talk about animated movies that got robbed Oscars you should think about how the Mitchells versus the machines lost to Encanto. That I will never fogive.

I think I was the only person on the planet who didn't adore "The Last Wish" to pieces. I liked it, but best of the year? When we had that and Marcel the Shell? I don't really think so. That said - Wild Robot is a damn strong contender for this year and one I'll happily vouch for.

I read the whole trilogy that this movie was based on, and here are some differences from the top of my head in the movie, bright bill learns from brute force, while in the book Roz trains bright bill on aerodynamics and the science of bird flight, making bright bill the best most fastest and smooth flier in his flock and in the book roz comes out of a wooden crate filled with packing peanuts while in the movie there is some metal company box thingie thats all I remember
