You know what I love most about this movie? In the beginning Roz sounds like a mindless AI but as she grows and learns she sounds more and more human. Lupita Nyong'o did a amazing job.

And I love how they gave us a point of direct comparison when she's talking with Rummage. Rummage has Roz's original voice so we get to see how different Roz's current voice is, especially with that "I don't KNOW!" line from her. And at the very end Roz switches from the robotic voice when greeting the human to her 'natural' voice when talking to Brightbill, letting us know that her memories haven't been wiped.

YESS!! i thought so too... Roz really reminds me of Wall-E, in the sense that both robots has some sorts of "malfunction" (for Wall-E it's his ability to sense fear and for Roz it's her lack of Battery) that ironically made them survive in an enviroment where others of their kind cannot...

The reason Roz couldn't replace their foot with one of the spare parts where she jurry rigged that roz unit is because it was all corroded and oxidized. It all fell in the general vicinity of where she did on that beach with the biggish waves so as anyone remotely familiar with electronics might tell you prolonged exposure to water and moisture without proper cleaning and maintenance will make most electronics and metal parts not work or not viable replacements for damaged parts. That Roz unit she jurry rigged together didn't last all that long either. It is possible to repair or fix rust, water damage and the general wear and tear those various parts suffered but you'd essentially have to scrap em and go through a whole process to salvage what you can which also if I remember requires equipment/facilities she doesn't have access. This is of course based on information I remember learning or searching the answers for myself however long back pieced together by my brain's train of logic so I could be wrong on some or more points, if anyone more familiar with the effects of water/moisture on electronics and metal as well as the processes to recover/fix such devices or materials than please feel free to correct whatever I may of gotten wrong, learning new facts or details is always fun

Man, loved seeing this in theaters. Initially I was disappointed to find out that the animals end up talking somehow (this is pre watch me when it was still trailers) because the very early trailers hadn't included any of the animal's speaking lines and honestly I thought the idea of a robot finding it's way in the wild and apparently mimicing or imitating the mostly normal wildlife around it to be pretty interesting in concept, but I was still willing to give it a hesitant shot when the trailers with speaking lines came out. And honestly I am glad I gave it a shot despite my mild disappointment over them speaking, while the idea of the animals having languages and all understanding each other was kinda silly but I like the explanation of her studying their sounds and deciphering a language out of it over a longish looking span of time. The movie's humor was pretty good and it did a good job of hitting those emotional narrative beats, there were a couple of points over the course of the movie where the odd robot and duck family relationship had me feeling emotional over how it was handled and told, I was mildly doubting/skeptical on if it would be a good movie and Dreamworks had very much exceeded my expectations and then some
