That was a great interview been following this build from New Zealand and can't wait to see how he goes in the drift challenge at World Time Attack at Sydney. Want reliable power with huge torque and able to get some good power can't go past the Barra motor maybe time to put one into the Sonvia Jake :P

you can do that rear end into an e series, you need to cut the wattslink mounts out and put the rear irs mount in, everything else bolts up, including the stock tailshaft and au struts

Use to watch greens tuff as a kid, owned an x-d s pack and a xe 302 wagon, have a xr6 ecolpi, those late barras are a cut above, with the wide track on the xd, should drift better than an narrow tracked 80s corola or stick it up the silvias

I am impressed with the rear suspension, but I'd really like to know more about the front, and the steering... XB / XC falcs were, (strangely) not too bad. The XD got a completely new body design and it was a lot lighter. With leafspring rear and recirculating ball front, 17 turns lock to lock, it was horrible. The EL had a Watt's Link rear, and a rack in the front, and that first one wasn't exactly great, but it was a hundred times better than anything before it. But a stock XD Falcon was just about safe in a funeral procession. Commodores of the same vintage were no different, but the fault there was completely different. Falcons had brakes. C'dores had something that looked like a disk brake, but... C'dores of that time were a lot of fun to drive, but they'd stop once. Then you'd better not want to stop again for a few minutes... Yes, I was a taxi driver from '84 ~ '88 and then again in the late '90s, I've got a real good idea what the original cars were like... Compare to later, a series 2 or 3 AU Falcon needs one thing the be a great drift car, and that's a slipper. That's not just XR6 and stuff, even the standard cheapo car (taxi) is excellent to drive sideways. I had a LOT of fun in AU Falcons....

barra sixes turboed are the ducks nuts. I've had some bad ass mustangs and Fairlanes and shoebox chevys and customlines but my son's turbo 4 liter falcon blows them to the weeds

The AU IRS was a massive improvement/upgrade from my previous EF XR6 solid rear end when I bought the Falcon S in 99. The car felt so stable especially at speed compared to the EF! Pity they had lsd chatter issues at the time which wasn't a safety issue but more an annoyance especially after ripping skids lol.

Brettus The AU IRS was miles better than the heap of shite put in the later Falcons too. I should know too, having just paid to replace all the effing bushes in my FG, & there is still some bloody clunking noise coming from it. If not the AU set up, give me the old live axle any day, simpler, lighter, cheaper, &, above all, STRONGER!

@@jasonmcmillan4373 No the newer version from BA on is heaps better again. A lot of power also is why the AU IRS had little issues apart from the lsd chatter. Mine seemed worse than others but it was supercharged also! My BA turbo was good though but my F6X seems to need something replaced every time I drive it... Lol

Wish I never sold my XD 302. Had it up to 240kmh when I was in the Pilbara(mild cam, Vac sec, C4 & Borg 2.92) Slow off the mark but boy did it wind up! Another gentleman I met years latter who was in Tom Price(I believe) had a XD 351 which would do 300kmh! Don't doubt, as he owns speed shop in Perth now. I'm currently accumulating XD parts now for a XF retro build, Probably with an EF Windsor. Will possibly go for the same flare kit as this except for the front air dam as its a little low.

Built an XD years ago; 383ci, Jericho 4 speed that came out if a wrecked Foxbody Mustang, and full floater 9". Once you got on the loud pedal in top, it was like warp speed

I do hate seeing LS's swapped into everything, but there's a reason to why they're so popular. Compact size, low weight, readily available, many on the shelf performance parts, reliable and also capable of extremely high power figures. Hopefully one day I'll see more performance parts for barras but it'll be unlikely as they aren't really available outside of Australia and with Fords gone, no more barras will be made, unless a company starts making billet blocks for them or something of the sort.
