I heard this on the radio two years ago and have blamed Stephen Fry (whom I thought was narrating) for scaring the shoes off me. Sorry Stephen! Now, Allam, you and I need to talk.

There's also a dramatisation of the story on this channel, broadcast last Christmas... it probably doesn't have the same impact as Roger Allam's voice though...

@@mysteriousmagpie Are you joking? It took me six months to get over this version! I'm quite a wimp when it comes to scary stories and only listened to this because I didn't think it would be too bad with Stephen/Roger telling it. Ha! It took me years to get over a film (which shall go unnamed) from the mid-eighties. But I'll tell my partner who's made of much tougher stuff and is a storyteller. Cheers!
