Today, June 22, marks Windrush Day, which honours the Commonwealth migrants who came to the UK in the decades after WWII, rebuilding a depleted workforce.
After years of campaigning for the date to be declared an official anniversary, it was formalised in 2018 amid a scandal over the Government's treatment of the so-called "Windrush generation".
In April that year, the Guardian reported on a growing number of cases of Windrush descendants, who were being denied their rights, detained and even deported on the false basis they were “illegal immigrants”.
With many still struggling to prove their Britishness and crippled by the costs of legal support, what have we learned from the Windrush scandal?

They didn't bother to apply for passports, well, 50,000 of them. Their fault.

They label this unjust and racist political policy as a scandal, I would strongly argue with anyone that this was a CONSPIRACY and I'm calling it what it clearly was.

So much animosity and hatred for what? And towards who? Like it’s been highlighted recently by HRH Prince Charles, the British people on a whole regardless or race, colour or creed owe a great deal of gratitude to the Windrush generation after ACCEPTING the invitation to come to Britain firstly. Then to built this country up from the ground with No to little tools, in them days not even the white British would participate in!!! Be thankful you’ve still got a NHS to protect and receive healthcare from... as for individuals throwing their toys out mentioning White Lives Matter; nobody said it didn’t but you cannot compare yourself or lives to that of the “blacks” when your experiences are not and will never be the same. I suggest you Anti Blacks listen to a educated white women called Jane Elliot, also check out her Brown eyed / Blue eyed experiment. ✌🏾 n love 💖

Tucker @ tucker I’m not prepared to go back and forth with an ignorant imbecile. Rather than coming on here with ur assumptions pick up a pen and paper, a book even KZbin and educate yourself.. Since this whole movement it’s now more than ever I’ve seen the most truth come out in terms of what We blacks contributed to this country! And No sniffing glue ain’t my thing, nor is popping pills, gimme the natural herbs!!

Well you are winning at the moment , but the tide might be turning I have always been a bit anti Black , But have noticed that people who used to call me a Racist seem now to be more angry than I ever was at the behaviour of these immigrant ingrates. That would be because they have been played, nobody likes to be made a fool of , and we are still a majority in our own country ( Just ) and are better at stuff so enjoy whilst you can

@@VentureHolly well, 70 years of being on the dole. Y’know 80% of windrush went straight onto welfare and to this day 70% of them still are. Out of all the groups on earth, you are by far the most useless.

They are always telling lies at the beginning of this video we were recruited I would never recruited them I never wanted by the government they tried to get out allowing then to get over here but I couldn’t as they were British citizens. They keep bringing a colour all the time but it’s not the colour is their behaviour. Japanese people do not behave the same way they do Chinese people at the same way they do. And when they say we need to learn from our mistakes well we haven’t learned from Em. mistakes because we’re still letting them in but We knew it was a mistake in 1948 so that was another stupid statement. But please do not listen to them when they say they were invited and they wanted in 1948 because that is a bear face lie.
