I think the discussion over who has priority is important for us kooks. Closest to the peak? First on the wave? I really don't want to snake someones wave and I did it by accident one day at Kanaha (jibed onto the face on my way out) and the guy was pissed. As soon as I realized what I had done I just got the hell out of there but the damage was done.

That's Great! Learning the local rules for priority shows respect for your fellow sailors and will increase the fun factor exponentially:) Priority is a bit of dark art and can change depending on where you are sailing. Generally on Maui priority is given to the person who is first on the wave. That is why you see us all sailing way out to sea to be the first to catch the approaching sets.

@@koav is difficult come there from Italy??? and which is the best period to take the best waves and winds??? THANKS
@koav4 жыл бұрын
@@matteo.righettii The best time for wind and waves on Maui is between October and December and then again in March to April. There are lots of Italians coming to Maui so it must not be too difficult.

Hi Man, You did a lot of pivot jibe so easy. I just want to know did you take your feet out of the footstraps or in them when doing the pivot jibe?
@koav3 жыл бұрын
It all depends on my board speed. If I am slogging in very light wind then I snap the jibe outside of the straps. The moment I have a bit more speed but still slogging I keep my front foot in the strap. If I am powered up then I leave both feet in the straps and look for a smooth swell face to snap the jibe. In some of my other videos you can see my foot placement when I jibe. Check out the Magic Hour video for instance🤙

You had priority, you were on it farther out from the beginning, he was just in front of you
@sprecklesville4 жыл бұрын
The guy in front fell off the back of his wave and decides to take the one behind - if no-one was on it then no issues - but you can't just claim someone elses wave just cos you don't like yours or you fall off it.
@koav4 жыл бұрын
You nailed it✔️ If that sailor would have waited to make his jibe behind the wave he ended up sliding off of he would have had a claim to the one behind. Although at Hookipa it often happens that sailors heading out will sail past as you wait for the on coming wave. If they sniff an opportunity to turn behind you before it reaches your heals they will claim it.

I mean, I get it, the whole priority thing and all that. But that guy *clearly* didn't have your ability and was probably just stoked to be out there and sailing Ho'okipa. Is it really that important to you? It's just one wave, man. Why even mention it?
