Those waterstarts are amazing. Like at 11min it looks like you're just standing up on the board. Does that require excellent flexibility? Are you using your hamstrings to pull your body towards the board?
@koavКүн бұрын
Thank you! I don't think it requires exceptional flexibility. I am pulling the board under my body (which is crouched) and using the surge of the on coming wave as added resistance to pull myself onto the deck of the board. The energy from the on coming wave adds to the wind focrce in the sail which gives me the power I need to pull myself out of the water.

Wondering how much you weigh? With a 4.9 and looks a small wave board and you still floating in light wind… is against the law of physic 😁

Heavier than I was expecting. I am looking for a freewave board 125 L with 6.3 ezzywave. I am 100 kg, do you think, I will be ok with 4-5 feet wave in 10-17 knots, side/on shore wind?
@Loopy10245 сағат бұрын
@@q2w8i9oYes. I ride 12-14 mph with 100L and 6.3 and I weigh 75kg. So you should be fine
@Loopy10245 сағат бұрын
Float and ride windsurfing is on another level these days. Big wave boards (100L) and larger sails are super “light” andwork great. While wingers are on their knees you can be out shredding.
@koav2 сағат бұрын
Yes, I think that is plenty of flotation and sail for your weight.
@Rowisss3 күн бұрын
Great video!!! However, I was expecting totally different conditions. At my windsurfing place for light wind I will take 8.2m (used to take 10m) sail and foil xD

I do a lot of lite wind sailing in Kailua, using a 220 liter board and Ezzy Cheetah sails. I’m 71 and not very athletic. Usually uphaul. Less drama.

There is float and ride, but this is a different level!! Loved the last minutes, how many knots was this during the session 10 knots?

I am not sure but 10 knots sounds reasonable.

Very nice as always. It would be perfect if you could talk more while you sail so that we can learn along the way. I'm a freerider and a surfer, sometimes I try to catch a wave with the freeride board, just applying what I learn from surfing. It would be perfect if you could give us freeriders some tips on how to start wave windsurfing.

Sound like your already on the right path... surfing is one of the most helpful skills for wave sailing. I will keep your comments in mind for future videos.

For those of you new to wave sailing the guy riding down the line, which is to the right at Kanaha, has right of way over a guy riding the wave upwind. We all seek the DTL experience and the "rules" are set up to protect that. Windsurfer could have gone below the kiter like he did earlier but kiter may change his path and you still get a collision.

Were you a little underpowered on that 4.6? Looks fun other than the lulls! I used to sail there and Spreckles if I am remembering correctly!
@SvetlinTotev2 ай бұрын
I broke my mast in a very similar way. I found it much easier to drag my surf a few meters in so I'm safe from the waves and unrigged it. The mast doesn't slide off when you put it through the straps along the length of the board. I left the extension attached to the board so that it keeps the boom from sliding off. When everything is packed on top of the board it is easy to hold onto all of the parts together. And once I got to the shallow reefs I could easily lift everything out of the water and carry it out safe from the waves and the rocks.

Thank you for the upwind outside right of way etiquette, and the get out with the surge point really helps build the confidence to give it a try some day at Ho`okipa cheers

Absolutely worth every penny. It is so insanely light, maneuverable and likely one of the most durable sails available. It does things that will blow your mind.

Wow, that near miss with that kiter at ~4 minutes in is a perfect illustration of how dangerous they are to windsurfers and themselves. That guy would have been very badly hurt, maybe killed if the windsurfer didn't react the exact way he did. Thankfully, most kiters seem to be transitioning to wing foiling.

nice helitacks! the 90l quatro and 5.0 seems like a nice combo. never sailed a multifin. that is a ton of fin area. use'd to sail at sprecks 20 yrs ago. If you ever need a sailing buddy I could easily be talked into getting out that way.

Right on I was also a regular at Sprecks in the early 2000’s. It’s sad that there aren’t too many people that sail there anymore.

Thanks for the video! Is Lower Kanaha suitable for wave beginners during Nov-Dec? How consistent is the wind during these months?
@koav3 ай бұрын
Yes, Lower Kanaha can be a great place to learn to wave sail when it’s not too big. Between November and December you will definitely get good waves and plenty of windy days. Typically this he deeper we are into the winter season the wind tends to drop off and the wave consistency increases.

what is the advantage in the new shorter boards with no rocker really trying to figure it out
@koav3 ай бұрын
The boards that I am riding are pretty average in length for a modern board. My newest board has Marcilio Browne’s rocker which is flatter than my usual rocker which provides more down the line speed and makes it easier to catch waves. It’s always a very fine balance between speed and turn ability. The modern boards look flatter than they really are due to the additional volume the shaper hides in the front half of the board.
@michaelvine76982 ай бұрын
