Very kind and true comment, but in my opinion Wesley won BECAUSE he's the most humble player in the world. In other words, humility is key. Skills come after.
@kassios
@kassios 4 жыл бұрын
He won because he played better after thousands of hours training, reading, practicing, playing. There is no rating in chess for character traits. Being good or bad is irrelevant. Carlsen, as an example that totally proves the point, has been dominating for a decade without being humble or good mannered. You don't have to when you are the best in the world in a game of pure skill and logic.

I personally love the king capture’s idea. I used to do it when i was little and it made my friends and I think a little more about exposing squares near the king. At a fundamental standpoint, especially if you’re allowed to NOT say check, it reinforces the player to think comprehensively with each move. At the higher levels, i think it’d make for interesting plays and more creativity.

7:57 I have thought this for a long time. Happy to hear it from a top player. Removing 3 rules - Kings allowed to enter each other's squares (the other King cab capture it if it ever happens), No checkmate or check (instead capturing the king wins the game), allowing to move a pinned piece (just like if it's pinned to the Queen), would make it simpler to learn without changing anything within the game. And makes more sense.

@@RAEN74 Yes. As we've seen throughout this tournament, but also for many years now, the vast majority of games end in draws. Those with wins are usually because someone blundered, not outplayed their opponent (the top 3 players are really the only ones that can win without blunders several times per tournament, spesifically magnus, but a few others too when they're in the groove).
@mc100hu
@mc100hu 4 жыл бұрын
there are no "blunders" in the rules. there are some moves that break the rules and losing the game is a consequence. why no website applies this rule?

@@vebjsand oh i see. So essentially in this example....moving the knight completely allowing the king to get captured. (AKA lose right there and then) whereas typically you aren't allowed to put your king in check. Hmm....yeah i find that interesting concept. I guess the point is not that you just take the King but you have to outmaneuver.... Can I ask though.....would it really allow other games to avoid going to draws then? I don't see how this actually would work. Other than someone blatently making a mistake as mentioned

King captures would make it much more intuitive for beginners. Now we have to teach them about relative and absolute pins. "You can't move this because hypothetically ..." is more complicated than "move this, you lose". Having a rule be "king capture = instant win" would change *nothing* in practice, except the computer allowing absolute pins to be moved.

I think the bishop check in the opening is to make it "faster" to attack on the queen side. I've seen a few Lc0 and A0 games where they do something similar which seems to serve no purpose, but in the end their attack is faster by 1 tempo which is the deciding factor.

The reason i believe why illegal move are illegal are to prevent problems like the two player being in check at the same time ( as suggested by levy at 8:20) Cause according to the rule white would have to move out of check ( not accounting for the fact that he can capture the enemy king) Therefore following the rules of chess as set, black could play the fork, white king would have to move, then black would have to move it’s own king.

The king capture thing that you said is what I play with my family over the board Levy. If somebody doesn’t realise they’re in check, and they don’t protect the king, we just knock the king over haha. It’s a much better rule, adds a new tactic for hidden attacks in a position.
