YO I ran all the moves from the knight sac on to the queen trade through my Stockfish 14 and gave it like 3 minutes in every position. Not only did Wesley attack with only top-engine moves, MVL defended in the most engine-perfect way. Like, even when Levy said that h5 was the most precise defense, Stockfish 14 discards this move after about 30 seconds and suggests bishop takes b5. And MVL found this defense over the board. That is INSANE. And even the continuation, sliding the rook over and trading queens is top engine-level stuff. Unbelievable.

It goes as a bishop sacrifice in the Ruy Lopez opening ; the game went 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 Bc5 (i believe this was the pre-arranged position) 4. c3 Bb6 5. d4 exd4 6. cxd4 Nce7 7. O-O c6 (maybe the move order isn't perfectly right, but you get to that position), in which Leela played 8. d5 with the idea to follow 8... cxb5 with 9. d6 and completely paralyze black's position. If anyone remembers that game, I'd be glad if you could share the reference.

*New video idea for Levy:* Create three or five games (with players of increasing ranks i.e. 700s, 900s, 1200, 1800s etc...) and put them all in move 20 (or any particular move) of a very famous chess game and see how the players play the position! I think it would be really interesting to see the comparisons between playstlyes and the development and implementation of certain tactics and ideas of specific ranks. Then when you've recapped the new games, explain how the original game was played and why it was so famous! I love your content Levy, really enjoying recent videos and going back and watching the old ones (your energy has been off the charts lately). Appreciation and support from the UK 🇬🇧 !

Fun fact, Bobby Fisher was pushing for the back row change 60 years ago. He said chess had become too "predictable"

I tested the position on my computer and Stockfish 14 finds Nf6+ at depth 34, however the reply after gxf6 is Nc3 in the PV until depth 41, and when playing Nf6+ gxf6 it finds very quickly Qh6. So technically Stockfish can find the sacrify, it just takes time

MVL busted like 10 minutes off his clock in a 15 minute game or something trying to play f5. I remember watching live how shocked the commentators slowly became from the knight sac

To be honest, I saw that because that is the only move that opens the king too much with the bishop pair and forces to take

Props to MVL for holding that position for a while.

Fascinating to see how levy's analysis is on the spot even in another chess variant

@Eric Lee i guess the way i wrote it you can interpret it toxic or jokingly either way. Not every corner of life is toxic and looking for it seems like a terrible life choice. I have the best wife. _Sie passt wie die Faust aufs Auge_ (btw a specific phrase that can only be determined whether it fits perfectly or not at all when you hear *how* I say it.)

When So plays it is a masterful move, but when I play it is a rookie blunder... not fair

11:55 actually what MVL played with Bxb5 is by far better than h5. At depth 38, h5 is +10.49, while Bxb5 is +5.64.

I want a engine that plays for an en passent checkmate or draw with as much depth as needed

Saw it live the commentators said it was not a good move at first. They were like “what?” 😂

I can't believe it but I actually found it. The dark square weakness in the position gave it away for me.

I always play moves the engine doesn't see. That is how I blunder all my pieces in 2 moves.
