Wirangu woman Susie Betts is reconnecting with her country.
She’s from the Eyre Peninsula on South Australia’s west coast and her country stretches from Elliston to north of Streaky Bay.
She’s piecing together her people’s story of the Pleiades, the Seven Sisters Constellation, and how the land was formed.
It’s a journey that’s taken her across the world.
The Wirangu were driven from their country when white settlers came to farm it.
There are documented conflicts and deaths from both sides.
The height of the violence saw a number of Wirangu and other Aborigines, driven from the clifftops to their deaths into the ocean in 1845.
For a long time Aboriginal people avoided the Elliston and Streaky Bay areas.
But a ceremony two years ago to acknowledge the massacre was a turning point for Ms Betts.
She is returning to areas precious to her ancestors and charging her soul with the sacred stories from the past.
