I can totally identify with Lola's trouble remembering all these characters' names. When I watched this show, I realized I had to watch it in 3 or 4 episode chunks, otherwise names wouldn't stick in my head and this show does not slow down - especially later on when they'll just mention names of characters from previous seasons.

FYI Omar's weakness is the innocence of kids/children... Also this is 2002 in an extremely poor community, the residents have no money. So $4,000/$6,000 would be closer to 10-20k nowadays in 2024, maybe more.

Omar is definitely gay, one of the most well rounded gay characters in TV, especially considering the time this show came out. I love how you guys were making excuses for why Jimmy went to see Kima, lol as much as a good cop he is, he's still a piece of shit sometimes. This greyness is what makes the characters in this show so good

the shell casing is ejected up to 6 meters behind the gun when you fire. typically to the right and rear of the shooter so it wont come directly at them unlsess you are holding the gun in a stupid way

Omar robs drug dealers bc drug dealers cant go to the police, which means there is both more risk and less risk. Omar has somewhat of a moral compass. Love your reactions because your view points are relatively subjective and nonjudgmental.

Bodie escapes, and hitchhikes from Juvenile lock up, which is about 15 minutes from where I live. I laugh every time Herc complains about it being so country/rural. "Look, a cow!" 😂

Best thing about the entire "Wire series" is the fact that it just goes to show how much of the problems most places face isn't due to a "system of racism" or "system of oppression"... it is simply a system of "pass the buck and take no responsibility". Then, it doesn't matter if you have good or bad people ON the job... the "system of not being responsible" will always cover their failures and prevent their ability to address a problem. It is simply "pass the buck while avoiding blame".

at the Deirdre crime scene, Bunk and McNulty, they communicate using only a single word and its variations 38 times! that's an inspiration David Simon had visiting real crime scenes with real detectives... and at 7:00 - after a series of undercover hand-to-hands, a mid-level dealer Marvin Browning is arrested by that circus raid, he refuses to become an informant despite his prior convictions, but he'll come back with a perfect timing!

It's always interesting to see people starting to watch this show and slowly getting their expectations subverted. First they begin to realise this is not a "cop show" and it's a show about people who just happen to be cops and drug dealers. They really are not that different; if you think back on the episodes you watched you have your captains and lieutenants and foot soldiers in the police, but you also have captains and lieutenants and foot soldiers on the drug dealers side, and you'll find the same structure at the office of the company you work for, for example, and on both sides, the foot soldiers can be untrained and immature. But usually, on the show, anytime you see Dee talking to his drugt crew, you'll then see Daniels talking to Herc and Carver, they're more or less the same. Next thing you'll begin to notice, I think, is how the show is about more than that, even. It's really about the city, and the institutions, and how they change people who live in them. You see this with Kima, she's probably the nicest of all cops on the show so far, but even she didn't hesitate to participate on the beating of Bodie, who's not only a minor, but was already immobilised. It was expected of her, as a cop, and no one finds it strange. So yeah, this is a very special show, that's not afraid to show some very real and ugly things, but is never "preachy" about the commentary it's making. The main writers of the show know the world they're portraying, too. One used to be a crime reporter for the city's newspaper, the other was a homicide detective who later became a school teacher, and most of the character you see are based on real people they met. Some of those real people will even appear on the show in some fashion. There's a lot to this show, and it's no wonder why many people will tell you they watched it a dozen times already, there's always something new to find.

Omar fills a niche. There are weaknesses in the drug operations on the street, as long as there are weaknesses, someone will eventually step up and exploit.

I would say it's pretty clear that Omar is gay, however the rest of the stuff Wee Bey was talking about with Avon is probably hearsay, rumors. Homophobia is rampant in these circles.

@@dudermcdudeface3674 Yes but when the DVD was released everybody had ALREADY SEEN AND TALKED ABOUT IT ON WEEKLY RELEASE IN LINEAR TELEVISION. HBO is a television channel for linear TV! Nobody called it binge watching to watch a year old season or 5 year old series on DVD. There was no "binge watching phenomenon" when The Wire was released on DVD. The term was coined after streaming services introduced the batch release that you could actually binge on release which was a novelty that Netflix introduced. Before Netflix nobody used the therm "binge watching". Goddammit what is so hard to understand about it. Oh and btw The Wire wasnt even the first TV seasons that got released on DVD, The Sopranos, X-files, Star Trek they all did it prior.

McNulty is just saying it's very dangerous profession to be a professional theaf from drug dealers. You steel thier stuff and they put a bounty on you so everyone is looking to kill you. It's easier to just sell drugs normally.

Melina's brother is kind of right and wrong... Eveey season focuses on a different area/angle of the drug business in Baltimore. Without giving anything away.. areas covered: Impact on children and schools, local governments, how drugs enter city, new gangs entering city, and news coverage. Each season a few characters will be absent while adding new ones.
